Heraldic Identity
« on: 12:13:13, 01/08/07 »
Does anyone  else have delusions  of grandeur and try to adapt a known Heraldic image to their own design ?
I quite like the Warrington Borough Council emblem, with a few alterations it can make an attractive design :-

Not sure what the official current correct Manchester Civic heraldic image look like ?
...next how to make a wallshield and moulding - there must be companies who can do all the hard work (I don't mean those cheap-looking copies mass-produced to order on the internet !!) ??  ???

I take it that's your picture which is when you were blonde, I was born blonde - do the elements turn our hair darker I wonder, unless it's a very strong blonde shade.

Anyway I liked your family crest or shield, the vicar who married me and my ex was called Buckley-he has a lot to answer for, shall I take it out on you >:D ;D

I was very fair-haired until about 13 y.o. now it's darker, mousey, not ratty !!
My family crest online here should have turned out bigger, but I am not very clever
I just wanted to make something up that seemed realistic, it is hard to tell where the name came from, could have been France or Ireland
Anyway i must try to make a wall-shield for the coat of arms I made up from adapting the Warrington one which was made up itself
It seems all clubs and companies manage to make them up nowadays, so why not me ? !!  :)

there is a Lymm shield but it isn't very interesting, it was on the front of the 1913 guide book that I bought

...yes !! even schools like to seek status from designing tailor-made badges, conferring suggested achievements in their field, from implied historic roots of pedigree, through the uise of heraldic emblems and motifs
It's clearly up to the individual to determine the credibility of the device in question, or whether they wish to be seduced without a fight....

well if I recall rightly, they "dug" this up from when Lymm (or Lime, Lym) was mentioned in the Domesday book!!!

I think Cathy's copy of the "History of Lymm" mentioning the shield is the same shield which is on the 1913 copy of the guide to Lymm book which I have, not as spectacular as the "Buckley" heraldic crest though ;)
