Early Memories
« on: 18:11:23, 11/01/17 »
At age four, I remember the bedroom window being blow in when a bomb exploded at the end of the street. This happened during the blitz while living in Bedford Avenue, Whalley Range. Because of damage to our house we relocated to Moss Side and I recall living in Meadow Street until 1945 when we moved back to Palmerston Ave, Whalley Range. I then attended Manley Park primary school.
Then after 'failing' the 11-plus, I went to St Margaret's Central secondary school. Some of the teacher's names that come to mind are the Head, Bill Mounsey, Mr Wilson (science), Miss Lowe (maths) and Mr Gilby. I stayed on an extra year in the sixth form and as a special concession was allowed to attend Chorlton Park school for GCE metalwork on Friday afternoons.
