Hi Rach,
One story is The Forum itself,Mancunians from all over the world, searching contacts, reliving old memories. It takes time to read, but well worth it.

Hi Rachel.I am researching a Manchester artist/painter by the name of John (Jack) McGuire who used to live in the Old Trafford/Chorlton [censored] Hardy area.  In his younger days he attended the Manchester School of Art at the same time as L S Lowry.  I have a collection of his paintings which I intend publishing in some form or other and I am hoping that you can help me in my quest to find anyone who has a McGuire paining.

As it is the Centenary of the end of WW1.
You could research  why,how and where, so many medals were won by the men from "the Torr" a tiny place in New Mills.
There is a plaque about this ,set in a wall, opposite the larger of the carparks.
I wonder if the huge loss of life, was made bearable by the fact that families were large and to a lesser degree the same in WW2.
I feel that if a large conflict were to break out, the small families of today would not recover.
