Does anyone remember Piccadilly Radio? (1970's).

I can't remember any of the DJ's by name but I recall a Saturday morning show where you could phone in and and tell jokes on air, etc.....I once won a stack of singles for my troubles.

Thanks Parky...that's right..."Phil Wood in the afternoon!' as the jingle went.

I wonder why it closed down?

Didn't it become Key 103? And then Piccadilly Magic

It's called hits radio now and is the only national radio station outside London.

I wish they kept the 261 .

There was also Gary "I get a sun tan all year round" Davis, Andy Peebles and I think Jo Wheeler was doing the weather forecast in those days too.

Also the fiend that is Ray Terret did a late show that was called something like "Lateral Thinking.'

Didn't Phil Wood have a strap line saying for when he asked someone a question; "do you know where I'm coming from baby?"

he had a jingle that said “ put more wood on the radio or wireless mother”.

I remember them running a competition for banner ideas in the run up to the 1976 FAC Final between United and Southampton.

The two that proved to be the most popular were "Jesus saves but Pearson nets the rebound," and Doc's Mayday Marvels.' The latter got the nod I believe due to fear of upsetting that dinosaur, knuckle dragging, religious nut job Chief of Manchester Police Anderton.

Hey Parky
I remember Umberto,.....he was a very large flamboyant ( if you get the drift) guy who used to work at "Manstyle" , a small boutique on a corner of deansgate if I remember . It was a great shop, and always had some great "gear" for sale. I remember ordering my first set of "Triple platform soled" shoes from them, you could actually pick the colours.

Oh happy days  8)

Never liked Umberto when he stood in for stannage or James h.

He would let old people ramble on and on .never getting to a point .

I'd hear all about some one great grandkids for two hours.

He was terrible at talk radio.

Look at the stars that came off that station.

Evens mallet Davies

All went onto big success.

Loved 261 . One DJ lived on the corner of my street . One night his car was being broken into . And my dad set our alsation at the time to see them off.

The DJ gave me loads of merch and records from 261.sadly I have no idea who it was but I do remember he drove a mg.
