A man who raped a woman before stalking and intimidating her has been jailed.

Lyndon Newman (01/11/1986) of Blackberry Lane, Brinnington, Stockport has today, Friday 24 August 2018, been sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of rape and stalking involving alarm or distress.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

Over the course of a two week long trial, the court heard how sometime between June and August 2017 Newman forced himself on the victim – who is in her 30s - at an address in Hyde and raped her.

What followed over the coming months would be a campaign of intimidation against the victim as Newman bombarded her with threatening messages over the phone, in text and on social media.

On one occasion when the woman was visiting her friend’s flat, Newman turned up outside the property and started pouring the contents of a petrol can over the victim’s car. When she came out to confront him, he doused her in petrol too and threatened to set her on fire.

Thankfully the victim was able to placate Newman before he could take things any further.

Detective Constable Louise Isherwood, of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “Not only did Newman subject his victim to a terrifying ordeal when he raped her but he then continued to make her life a misery as he led a campaign of intimidation against her.

“Dangerous people like Lyndon Newman deserve to be locked up and it brings me great satisfaction to be able to say that his victim can now breathe easily as he spends the next 15 years in prison.

“She has shown an incredible amount of courage in coming forward to police despite the threats of this animal and I want to pay tribute to her for that.

“Her bravery has led to a devious predator being taken off the streets and put behind bars where he is unable to hurt any other women.”

Well I am astonished, firstly, because it seems the police are taking stalking seriously and next because he has been caught, there are many out there intimidating the vulnerable.

A former coach is one of the first to be jailed as part of a nationwide investigation by GMP into non-recent sexual abuse in football.

William Toner (09/11/1943) of Market Street, Whitworth has today, Friday 20 July 2018, been jailed for 3 years and 2 months at Bolton Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault on a teenager boy during the 1990s.

The court heard how Toner – who was also known as Bill – claimed to be a scout from Manchester City Football Club and had links to clubs in Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Cambridgeshire.

He first met his victim, an aspiring Bury footballer - by offering one-to-one coaching sessions with him after telling him he had potential.

After the sessions, Toner would inappropriately massage the boy before sexually touching him.

The abuse spanned years and the victim felt he could never tell his family or report the offences to police.

He eventually turned his back on the sport and stopped playing shortly after in a bid to escape the abuse.

However, following national coverage of non-recent sex abuse in football he bravely reported Toner to Manchester City Football Club, who encouraged him to contact the NSPCC in 2016- who in turn contacted Greater Manchester Police.

An investigation – code-named Operation Corduroy – was launched which spanned nationwide involving partners including the NSPCC, Football Association and local councils.

Detective Sergeant Dave Jones, from GMP’s Operation Corduroy investigation team, said: “This victim dreamed of being a footballer, just like many others, and Toner ripped that dream away from him and made it a living nightmare.

“He used his esteemed position as a football scout to perversely prey on a vulnerable young boy with a promising career ahead of him.

“His abuse was sickening and deplorable and the victim felt he had no other choice but to turn his back on that dream in a bid to escape it.

“Toner robbed him of his childhood and this man has had to endure this pain knowing that Toner was out there all the while walking free.

“His bravery and courage throughout this investigation has been commendable and by taking that first step of reporting his ordeal, he can now see his abuser put behind bars.

“Today is a breakthrough for all victims of this type of offence and we hope that this case has opened the door for others to feel confident in reporting their abuse to police.

“This has been an extensive investigation involving partners nationwide who have all played a crucial part in helping to secure this conviction and I want to also thank them.”

Greater Manchester is a fantastic place for sport and we want to ensure this is a safe space for children and young people.

To report child sexual exploitation, call police on 101 or 999 if a child is in immediate danger. Alternatively, visit www.itsnotokay.co.uk to find contact details for local ‘It’s Not Okay’ team.

Two prominent members of a banned neo-Nazi organisation who claimed that a race war was imminent have been jailed.

During a six week trial at The Old Bailey in London, the court heard how Christopher Lythgoe, the 32-year-old self-appointed leader of National Action, had planned for the far right organisation to continue despite it being proscribed in 2016.

The investigation into Matthew Hankinson, 23, began when police received intelligence that he continued to be a member of the organisation alongside Lythgoe.

The far-right group was formed in 2013 as a youth group who followed an extreme national socialist ideology and focused on recruiting people from a young, educated background. Their presence increased at demonstrations and far-right rallies up until 2016, when the group was branded a terrorist organisation, after its members showed public support for the murder of Jo Cox MP.

During the trial, the jury were shown a number of messages where Lythgoe, instructed the group to continue being active members of Nation Action but to ‘shed a new skin’ in order to avoid detection by the authorities.

His warped ideologies were shared by Hankinson and the two would often communicate using encrypted methods to discuss their evil and dystopian vision whilst remaining under the radar from authorities.

Both men would also use Lythgoe’s makeshift gym – known to members as the North West HQ for National Action - to prepare to become street fighters in a race war they claimed was imminent.

Addressing Lythgoe as he sentenced him to eight years in prison today (18 July 2018), the judge called him a fully-fledged neo-Nazi. The judge also said that Hankinson had a neo-Nazi perverted ideology as he sentenced him to six years imprisonment.

Detective Superintendent Will Chatterton, Head of Investigations for Counter Terrorism Policing for the North West, said: “These individuals were not only intent on broadcasting their vile views and hate speech but were prepared to do so at whatever cost, with no regard for the people who they were openly wanting to harm.

“Today’s result has enabled a spotlight to be shone on some of the sickening activities of the banned extreme right wing organisation, National Action.

“People who support extremism of any kind that threatens the safety of others can expect to be investigated by counter terrorism officers – something which, with the help of partner agencies, has made today’s outcome possible, resulting in a significant blow to National Action and those who share their extremist views.

“These people are not representative of our communities, they have no place in society and we will continue in our fight against those who want to bring a reign of terror to the UK, putting them behind bars where they are unable to continue their terrorist manifesto.”

Information can be passed to police by calling the confidential hotline on 0800 789 321.

The full details of the men and their sentences are:

Christopher Lythgoe (24/04/1986) of Greymist Avenue, Woolston was found guilty of membership of a proscribed organisation (Section 11 TACT 2006) and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Matthew Hankinson (04/06/1994) of Market Street, Newton-Le-Willows was found guilty of membership of a proscribed organisation (Section 11 TACT 2006) and was sentenced to six years in prison.

"People that support extremism of any kind that threatens the safety of others can expect to be investigated by counter terrorism officers", why then are they not hammering at comrade Corbyns door then, that piece  of filth has a long history of supporting the terrorists, IRA, HAMAS etc., he is more of a danger to Britain than any percieved Right wing threat, oh yeah I forgot,  only Lefty extremism is acceptable to some people, British people can die by the busload,, but the Left will always find a reason to understand why these vermin attack us, while invoking the memory of Jo Cox, unemployment, poverty, poor education are used asreasons, strangely the same policies used to attack the Government, it's laughable.

A man who repeatedly stabbed his friend in an unprovoked attack before telling the victim: ‘I’ll lick your blood’ has been jailed.

Liam Winstanley (02/03/1998) of Sutton Drive, Droylsden was sentenced to six years in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court today, Tuesday 28 August 2018, after pleading guilty to section 18 assault.

He also received a 16-month prison sentence to run concurrently after pleading guilty to affray and possession of a knife following a large scale disorder in Droylsden in December 2017.

On 11 March 2018, Winstanley was one of three passengers in his friend’s silver Vauxhall Corsa.

Winstanley asked to be dropped off at Saxon Hill, close to Medlock Sports Centre, Droylsden.

While getting out the vehicle, Winstanley produced a knife and asked the driver ‘who do you think you’re setting up?’ before stabbing him to his right bicep and right of his chest.

Winstanley then attacked the victim again with a downward strike aiming for the man’s face.

The victim managed to deflect the blow, suffering a serious injury to his forearm which severed an artery and required surgery.

The victim managed to grab Winstanley’s knife hand, who then ran off and said: ‘I’ll lick the blood off the knife’.

Separately, on Friday 15 December 2017, police were called to a large scale disturbance at Droylsden Catholic Club, Sunnyside Road, where an 18th birthday party was taking place.

CCTV showed Winstanley arriving at the venue before attempting to start fights with various people in the club’s car park.

After exchanging punches with one man, he produced a knife and lunged at him, before dropping the weapon.

He then began to randomly throw punches at people waiting at a nearby bus stop. The incident spilled onto the road where Winstanley began banging on the bonnet of a vehicle which had stopped.

Detective Sergeant Joseph Harrop of GMP’s Tameside Division said: “Winstanley is clearly an unpredictable and dangerous individual.

“His behaviour was erratic, paranoid and – quite frankly – bizarre.

“Without any prior warning, he viciously attacked his friend.

“The victim’s strength and bravery in defending himself quite possibly saved his life, but left him with a very nasty injury that has required extensive treatment.

“During the separate incident outside the club, Winstanley seemed frenzied, and intent on hurting anyone he could find – including innocent members of the public.

“We are glad he’s now in prison – where he belongs.”
