Labour has taken full control of the former Tory flagship council of Trafford gaining six seats on a difficult night for the Conservatives.

The Tories lost nine councillors with the Liberal Democrats adding two seats and the Greens one.

Sir Graham Brady, Conservative MP for Altrincham and Sale West, said that "dissatisfaction with the national scene was massively at play".

It is the first time Labour has taken control of Trafford since 2003.

Labour gained Ashton-upon-Mersey which has always voted Conservative while the Greens took a seat from the Tories in Altrincham.

A lot of votes were protest votes imo  the results could be entirely different next time, so no need for the smaller parties to pat themselves on the back.

I just wish voters would not choose the Greens and Limp Dums to register protest votes, it gives them ideas of grandeur, vote independents instead or just spoil the ballot paper.

They are now, the Liberals merged with the SDP in the 80s due to low voting numbers, however a group of the party carried on as the Liberals fearing dilution of the old party traditions.
