Its easy to get mixed up between Whaley Bridge  and Staley Bridge, [both Penine Towns]THE BLOKE WHO COMPOSED "iTS ALONG WAY TO TIPPERARY",WAS  FROM STALEY BRIDGE.I REMEMBER SEEING A WALL PLAQUE ABOUT IT.

He is obliged to be there to show his concern or he could be accused of ignoring the seriousness of the situation, it's quite possible the opposition would make political capital out of it.

Parky, dam inspection annually by independent engineer ,[not owned by water Co.]
Come on,200 yr old, should'nt be filled to the top,to allow for downpour . There are 100s more like this, most likely drinking water, which Whalley's dam isn't.
Funnyest guy,   I'm not leaving,I'll sleep in the car.     Much safer in a dinghy methinks.

The fuzz are using drones to monitor the evacuation area after some lowlife broke into one of the properties, haven't those poor people enough to worry about? What kind of person preys on their misfortune?

Maybe it's the reason why some are refusing to leave the area, what a dilemma. Strangely enough I read a letter on MEN website earlier today and the author indicated that this type of thing was occurring, makes me wonder if the reported break-in is an isolated case or are there other instances.

Just as a matter of interest Todd[as in Toddbrook] means Fox,[a solitary animal.]"on mi Todd"is a common expression for being alone.Ah, the wonder of words!

Googled it, it's rhyming slang "Todd Sloane" an American jockey who rode in the late 1800s-early 1900s, he often found himself so far ahead of the field, hence the association.
