She deserves a mention even though she was a Sheffield artist and entrepreneur.

Annie Bindon Carter transformed the lives of ex-servicemen returning from the trenches of the First World War with horrific injuries, by employing them to decorate fabrics and to help build a successful business, giving them back their self-esteem, and putting them into full paid employment.
She also aided the intellectual development of the students of our University by donating the sum of £1,000 to the Library, specifically for the purchase of beautiful artists’ books to inspire and engage interest outside of the curriculum.
On display are costumes, fabrics and designs from the company, alongside examples of the private press books bought from that donation.
