That's true, most carers are certainly not like that. They work extremely hard in a very difficult and demanding job in return for poor wages and employment conditions. The central problem comes down to funding and resources. We need, as a nation, to find a way forward in order to deal effectively with the challenges presented by a demographic where more people are living for a greater number of years than used to be the case. Add to that the fact that mental health is an area that has traditionally been neglected and we have a huge problem. The general public are not much interested in the psychiatric part of health care, partly because it is not considered to be 'sexy' or glamorous.
