Manchester Care Home

A care home for people with mental health needs did not give staff mental health training and had residents who only left their room at meal times, inspectors have found.

Why do these so-called health staff take these jobs, have they got a power complex which is sustained by bullying vulnerable people ???

The company who runs it says the findings are 'unfair'

They should be more particular on who they employ.

To a lot of people working in the caring profession, be it elderly or child care and yes even nursing it's just a job, gone are the days when such things were vocational they clock on and clock off and that's it, I'm not suggesting that all carers are like that by the way

That's true, most carers are certainly not like that. They work extremely hard in a very difficult and demanding job in return for poor wages and employment conditions. The central problem comes down to funding and resources. We need, as a nation, to find a way forward in order to deal effectively with the challenges presented by a demographic where more people are living for a greater number of years than used to be the case. Add to that the fact that mental health is an area that has traditionally been neglected and we have a huge problem. The general public are not much interested in the psychiatric part of health care, partly because it is not considered to be 'sexy' or glamorous. Has there ever been a soap opera on the telescreen based in a mental health unit?

Professional carers are paid substantially more than a parent who is a carer to a relative, perhaps if the latter received a decent allowance - it is presently around £66 per week or thereabouts I am informed by someone - they could afford to leave their jobs and look after their relative/s which would cost the government less than contributing to their care.

God help those dedicated people who try to care for a much loved family member at home, particularly if that person is stricken with advanced dementia. There are thousands out there who almost put themselves into the grave in their desperate attempt to do it. Most eventually reach an acceptance that the best interests of all concerned are served by finding a good nursing home nearby.

When a carer (for a relative) reaches pensionable age their care allowance is cut which doesn't make sense when it becomes harder as they get older.

The system is always geared towards the interests of the self-appointed elite. They care not a jot for the struggles endured by Little People (i.e. the rest of us).
