In it's heyday Ward & Goldstones was one of the biggest manufacturing employers in Leigh.  They occupied 3 local mills, Butts Mill, Platt Fold Mill and Hindsford.  They had quite a few other big factories comprising  the original one in Salford, Monton Mill, Todmorden and Eccles.  The company was booming and they opened up Pendle Connectors close to Butts Mill and later moved into Turner Bros.  It is hard to find exact details of the history of the company but I would estimate that they employed well over 2000 people.
