I used to get all my hippie tassle tops from top rock shop I loved that place .... would love to find a shop like that now !!!

I do believe the underground market was on Market Street / Brown Street. The public entrances were blocked off and the inner market area underneath was used for the new developments.


My Mum informed me it was a place to by 'tacky' flares from in the early seventies  :)
Well your Mum was wrong (and right).In those days a pair of flares were essential.Just resting over he edge of your platform shoes-they aren't new to this age I can assure you

I used to go there, probably later than most posting on here - around 1989 onwards. There was Piccadilly Records on the left where you could buy also gig tickets, and Top Rock Shop opposite where I used to buy Directions hair dye. I remember a good record stall in the underground bit and another stall where you got the ubiquitous stripey tights from, and another unit down there which sold punk stuff where i remember buying a pvc mini skirt. It was part of my usual rounds on a shopping trip along with the Corn Exchange, Afflecks, Eastern Bloc.
