The list is for discussion of Manchester and Salford area family history.  Any discussion on how our forebears lived, why they migrated to the area, where they worked, and similar topics is welcome.

Discussion of family history, migration patterns, immigration, historical sketches, census data, wills, vital records (births, marriages, deaths), and web sites relating to Manchester and Salford is encouraged.

The area covered by the list is roughly what is now enclosed and near the M60 Motorway.  Several towns are included that are not strictly Manchester but are so intertwined as to make them inseparable. These include, but aren't limited to,  Salford, Oldham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Urmston, Denton, Hyde, Eccles, Pendlebury, and Stockport.
