  • Former Smiths singer Morrissey has postponed six US concerts due to a bleeding ulcer.
The singer checked into hospital in Detroit on Friday. It is not known whether he has since been discharged.
The postponements came after he called off three shows last week due to "band illness".
"Morrissey is expected to make a full recovery and thanks everyone concerned for their support during this time," his spokesperson said.
The star has postponed concerts in Asheville, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; Lawrence, Kansas; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Lincoln, Nebraska.
The 53-year-old singer, who led revered Manchester indie band The Smiths in the 1980s, plans to resume his tour on 9 February in Las Vegas.
He recently revealed that he had refused an offer to reform the group for the Coachella festival, to take place in California in April

Morrissey pulls his autobiography days before release Morrissey The book had been due to be published on 16 September     Former Smiths frontman Morrissey has halted plans to release his autobiography, three days before it was due to be published.
The memoirs were set to give details about the 54-year-old's life growing up in Manchester and his relationship with former songwriting partner Johnny Marr.
But a statement on his fan website said there had been a "last minute content disagreement" with its publisher.
A Penguin Books spokeswoman said there would be no comment on the issue.
"Although Morrissey's autobiography was set to be available throughout the UK on September 16th, a last-minute content disagreement between Penguin Books and Morrissey has caused the venture to collapse," the statement said.
"No review copies were printed and Morrissey is now in search of a new publisher."
It is the latest setback for the singer, who suffered a series of what he referred to as "medical mishaps" which led to him cancelling his US tour earlier this year.
He was also forced to cancel part of his South American tour in July due, he said, to a "lack of funding".

Never did get him or the smiths, could see the attraction.  There were a few so called Manchester bands i would listen to. To much hype and not enough talent for me.

Morrissey autobiography gets release Morrissey The book's publication has been delayed by a month  Continue reading the main story Related Stories Morrissey's autobiography is to be published later this month after the former Smiths singer resolved a dispute with his publisher that had threatened to derail the book's release.
Last month, the singer claimed "a last-minute content disagreement" with Penguin had led the deal to "collapse".
Despite initially saying he was seeking a new publisher, Morrissey has now patched up relations with Penguin.
Penguin Classics said Autobiography by Morrissey would come out on 17 October.
That is a month later than the original publication date of 16 September.
A Penguin spokesperson declined to comment on the cause of the dispute and the delay.
The memoir is expected to lift the lid on the 54-year-old's life growing up in Manchester and his relationship with his former bandmates in The Smiths, one of the most important bands in British music.
He has enjoyed a successful solo career since the band split up in 1987 and is also known for outspoken views on animal cruelty, politics and the royal family.
This year, the singer suffered a series of what he referred to as "medical mishaps" which led to him cancelling his US tour.
He was also forced to cancel part of his South American tour in July due, he said, to a "lack of funding".

Cliff Richard is 'very disappointed' over cancelled Morrissey gig.

Sir Cliff Richard has been left ''very disappointed'' over Morrissey's cancelled tour.

The 73-year-old singer - who was due to support the former Smiths star at an upcoming gig in Brooklyn, New York later this month - is no longer performing at the venue after the 'Hang the DJ' star postponed the show due to ill health.

A note posted on his website said: ''Cliff and the CRO (Cliff Richard Organisation) are very disappointed to confirm that Morrissey has just cancelled the remaining dates on his tour, including the Barclay Center, Brooklyn, NYC on 21st June 2014 where Cliff was to perform as Morrissey's Special Guest.

''The CRO apologies for the inconvenience to fans and wishes Morrissey a full and speedy recovery.''

Morrissey, 55, made the announcement on his official fan site True To You today (11.06.14) after pulling out of a number of other US gigs due to infection earlier this month.

The post read: ''In the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted.

''Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates.''

Meanwhile, Cliff has previously spoken of his surprise at being asked to join the 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' singer's tour.

He said in February: ''I was surprised myself when I got the call. I told my management, You'd better check this out because we're poles apart, really. I was worried it might be a joke.''
