smith st area

in 1841 my ancestor lived in smith st  in the gaythorn area  now probably knott mill?  at the end of smith st there was a pub what was it called?   

about 100 yards away was a timber yard it was on south junction st and backed on to the rochdale canal any one have any clues who owned it around 1840 ish im looking for the name bennett 

as a matter of interest what is now built over smith st as id like to look at weekend Ive looked at the maps and i you st cant picture the area  but being wedged between two rail way lines im sure some one will know

Have a search for uour Bennett ancestor on the directories for Manchester.
Who knows what you might find on this site if you have enough patience to trawl the streets and businesses.
