Collecting!!
« on: 17:07:54, 13/11/06 »
It's always difficult for me to start a new topic...not living in Manchester anymore....however...
I adore Car Boot Sales and Antique and Collectors Fairs. You just never know what you are going to find!!! (My hubbie says "a load of other peoples rubbish! ;D"...which I know is true to a certain extent. Nothing much though beats the thrill of a 'find'. :D I am curious to know where in Manchester the best Car Boot Sales and Collector's Fairs are held. Has anyone here got a great bargain? Do you think ebay is killing of the Fairs and reducing the Boot sales to glorified jumble sales?

Of course my great love is dolls so I am always on the look out. Over the years I have become very fussy dollwise so very rarely acquire anything other than at specialised sales....but you never know.
Collecting jewellery I expect is a minefield...but I love both art deco and art nouveau. I adore pink sapphires...that colour is just perfect, better than rubies.
My daughters quite like miniature perfume bottles too.
I think my collections would be described a 'kitsch' overall but I like them. These days I tend not to deviate too far from dolls and related items but only because of the space issue. I would love, at some time, to open a shop called something like 'Second Childhood'. ;)

You really need a specialised magazine otherwise it just turns into yet another collection.
I used to get it in and out...but now just read it in WH Smith's when no one's looking. ;D
