Just gone onto this Forum so only just seen your message.  I went to St. Joseph's and left in the 1960s so before your time but remember it well.  Loved the School and liked the Nuns and loved the chapel.

I used to go to St. Josephs Technical too.  I loved it there.  That chapel was beautiful.

I heard that Sister Catherine went to the missionaries.

Does anyone know what happened to Sister Monica?  I loved that lady.

Is this the same St. Josephs that was the reform school known as "Father Quicks" back in the day? (It later became Longsight Police Station)

My late grandfather was forced to attend there after being thrown on to the streets to fend for himself  aged 8 by his drunken stepfather. He often told me of the brutal treatment doled out by the "Brothers" who ran the place. He ran away to work on the trawlers at Fleetwood aged 14, then joined the army aged 16 ,where he was wounded and mentioned in dispatches. He always said that Father Quicks was worse than the discipline dished out by the army.  ;D

That is definitely not the one Adsum.  There was another St. Josephs on Plymouth Grove.  This one was built as a convent and school, a very old building on Laindon Road.

I left there in 1962 Maggi.  Sister Margaret was the head teacher, and Sister Philomena the Mother Superior.  Sister Theresa Domestic Science, Sister Raphael Geography, she was very young.
Can't remember Sister Mary.

Hi Estar
You were leaving as I was starting,
I started in 1964
Sister Margaret was Mother Superior/Headmistress, if that was possible?
I remember Sister Raphael, I liked her
Do you remember Mrs Sandal?
I met her years later, she lived in Marple near me,
trying to remember a few more.............
...........Mrs Flannery, Miss Connor, Miss O'Connor,
Sister Monica,  I didn't care for her, she used to make us say the Rosary at 12.30,
(I used to go home for lunch, I used to catch the 12.38 bus,
and I had to run to catch it, I never caught it when we had a lesson with her,
and then I had to run all the way home)
Do you remember Miss Hampson (French), got fired from her class so many times,
she was a headcase.
Thanks for the memory
Maggi

Hi Maggie
Sister Monica didn't do that to us lol.  Sister Raphael was lovely.
Yes I remember Mrs. Sandal.  Mrs. Flannery used to be at my junior school  too.  I met her in Longsight one day, she was still at St. Josephs then, but that was years ago.
Miss O'Connor rings a bell but I can't remember properly.
Miss Hampson was a nut case, treated us as if we were 5 years .  We went on strike for her lessons and she ran out crying, I felt really guilty but had to stick with it.
Some others,  Mrs. O'Rourke,  Miss Archer, Miss Bird, Sister Louise,

Do you remember the P.E. teachers?
