Was Hart your mum's maiden name? Would folks remember her as Doreen Hart?

The Library was on the same block as Travis's Newsagents and Stolbergs grocers, it did indeed close  down and was replaced by a mobile Library, just to reiterate my previous enquiry, does anybody have any recollection of Jewish/Non Jewish relationships/ courtships in the 1960s? I would like to know what the reaction of family and friends was to any such relationship.

Just searching the web and stumbles across this site which I find really interesting.
I knew Mr Bobker, i thought he was a brilliant teacher. I lived off Barrow Hill Road as a child. Delivered papers for the paper shop next to the Titanic. My first bike was bought from the second hand shop just opposite. I went to St. Alban's Church which was high church of England, Father Wright was then the Minister. I remember most of our social activities were based around the church in those days. 1940's 1950's. The main church was bombed in the war and a temp building was constructed until the main church was repaired. It is really nice to take a trip down memory lane.

My husband informed me it was called Ridal Mount. It was closed down when he was young.

Rydal Mount Wesleyan Church, Waterloo Road, Cheetham Hill.

Image courtesy of Manchester library images

The only two hospitals i know of in the area was: Victoria memorial Jewish hospital on Elizabeth street & Northern hospital for women & children, Park place, Cheetham hill road.

Later on the Northern hospital had a new home on Cheetham hill road in 1958.

That's a lovely photograph. I had forgotten what the church looked like.
I keep thinking of the 'old days' now i have found this website. My mum and I would always walk to the 'village' as it was called then, to the Co-op butchers every week. Our vegetable shop was called Hartley's which was just over the other side of the Tan yard. If my mum did not bake on a Friday, we went to the bread shop on Gt. Cheetham Street near the County picture house. I remember the Globe which is mentioned earlier, we called it the 'bug house' also because you always came out with itchy legs.
We played, as children, on the croft, Barrow Hill Road, just off Waterloo Road, where houses were situated before they were bombed.
We had rope swings tide to gas lamps, lots of memories. Rag and Bone men regularly came down our entry. We always swapped rags for brown and white stone. White for the front step and Brown for the back step. Sue.
