Beech Mount maternity hospital was for years run by my friends' father, Dr Patrick Mullin.

Hey CheethamLad I went to Temple left in 1969 and then North Manchester left in 1974, I still see one or two of the old Temple boys, when were you there?

Hi,

Apologies if there is already a thread on this, I did look but must have missed it.
Back in the day, my granddad was a pro boxer - Joe Lancaster, but he also used to reminisce about his unlicensed fights in a place he called Cheetham Hill Bloodbaths. I don't think this was Dover Castle (unless they held "events"). He fought under the name of Joe Bamford for these fights to make a few extra quid. Apparently they were quite famous back then?

I wonder if anyone else remembers or has experience of this and where it would have been?

Thanks in advance

I don't know if this is still alive, but I've only just found it and have had a real kick.  I lived in a little street off Waterloo Rd and went to Temple school where my father taught (I left in 1963).  I used to skate in the Ice Palace (was it on Derby St?), and saw films at Temple cinema and bought sweets at the little shop next to the cinema.  After we moved to Higher Crumpsall and my Dad changed schools my brother and I would walk home via The Polygon and King David's School.  I used to go to the Brownies in Henriques House. Also swimming in the Swimming Baths next to Lorenzinis and of course would go in there for ice-cream after swimming in summer (never tasted ice-cream like it before or since), and a bag of Smith's crisps and a hot blackcurrant drink in winter.  Now I live in Australia

What brought me to this link was searching for Chiltern's dance studio where I went most weekends. What exquisite memories this is bringing up. :smitten:

More memories . . . . Suzied talked about walking to The Village and it immediately brought up picture memories of walking to the Village with my Mum.  Also going into Titanic butchers and being fed savaloys by Mrs Reece.

Thank you to whoever set this site up. :smitten:

Welcome LioCl. You'll remember Waterloo Rd Park in Marshall Place, then, and the lovely smell of paper and ink in Waterloo rd post office, and Titanic's Deli? My mum and I used to buy lovely bread in one of the Jewish baker's around there and, as I was quite a cute-looking kid, the ladies would always slip me a lovely little biscuit. Happy days, eh?   :smitten:

My Grandparents (Mr and Mrs Kaye)  lived at number 12 Penrose Street Hightown until the houses were knocked down.   I remember two corner shops - one at the top of the street and one at the bottom of the street with the junction of Herbert Street.   Henry and Lina Peters owned the shop at the bottom of the street which was facing a factory called C & M Garments.   I remember a sweet shop on Herbert Street called Classics.  The neighbours were all very nice, I remember a Mrs Green, Clara Cornfield, Mrs Spicer, Betty and John Keogh, Mrs Ross, I also remember an Ice Cream van where I bought ice cream from called Serretti's.
