Hey Treble,
I have heard that story before and I used to hang around with Paddy's son back in the 70s we used to go to the Playboy club. Good times!

How bad is crime in Cheetham now.?.
Just had a report of a woman [not local] attacked as her car waited at Waterloo Rd lights, and bag stolen at 7-30 pm. Very rare I go there, but the last time,2 yobs went through the lights as if ther wasn't any.
Politicians and nappies must be changed often, and for the same reason

The area is a dump now, it's been declining for decades, I used to go down there for a drink in some of the boozers after moving away in 1978 and worked a bit in the area but rarely set foot down there now, except occasionally to go to the Fort, it's sad because I enjoyed living there in the 60s & 70's.

Does anyone remember the christian names of the teachers at Temple, Miss Martin, Miss/Mrs Cuthell & Mr Jones? I only ever remember addressing them formally.

does anyone remember the youth club set up by Fr Morris St Chads in the cellar of the convent
think the were the little sisters of the poor? we had a record player we could dance to the latest hit's
the sisters would come and check on us every now and then and frighten the life out of us.
this would have been in the early 60's didn't last very long.

I don't recall this, but it would have been the sisters of Notre Dame, who taught at St Chads and at Notre Dame Grammar School in Cheetham. I attended both of those schools and they frightened the bejeebers out of me for years!  :o

Here's a snippet for you guys: On 2 June 1966, a 70 year old widower, Israel Julius Davis, was found murdered in his home in Brideoak Street, Cheetham. Found lying on his bed, he had a badly fractured skull. Police interviewed 13,000 people over the next 4 months  but top detective, Chief Inspector Charles Naan, had to concede they'd received not a single piece of useful information. The coroner's verdict was murder by person or persons unknown and the case was never solved. Anyone recall the incident? Anyone care to own up?

The nuns at Chads were scary, also we had two at St Clare's, one of which beat a lad across the back and backside with a strap, his crime was not to show a flicker of emotion after she strapped his hands, as he returned to his seat she came up behind him and viciously assaulted him in front of the whole class.

Hi does anybody know anything about St. Marks Primary School? My Mum attended there in the late 1940's/early 1950's. Sadly she has just passed away and we have come across a school book with Clarksfield written on it and we are assuming this was her Secondary School. Has anybody on here heard of it?
Would be grateful for your help.
Thank

All I can tell you is that St Marks was on Heath st, opposite Cheetham Secondary School, I believe some other contributors possibly attended, have a look through some of the older postings on here, you may be able to glean some info.
   Good luck  :)
