half of my family are medics and nurses - they tend to put me off the profession by talking shop all day  and its impossible to watch a show like casualty without hearing - you'd never stop the blood like that, they should use sutures... etc - i want to be a writer but i'm stuck in agency hire warehousing most ofthe time

 'Agency House Warehousing'.....What's that???
I really really wanted to be a journalist but my Mother put me off. It is one of my biggest regrets! I never influenced my kids......and they both became hairdressers. (I am sure there is a moral to this tale!! ;D ;D ;D ;D)

I work for retail warehouses, mostly through employment agency hire, but at this time of year there isn't much work out there - surviving on a few writing sales and trying to find ways to get my website to pay for itself more but it's very frustrating

Don't you have to be very disciplined to write?...I mean actually getting down and doing it. I can imagine me keep putting it off...'I'll just do this and I'll just do that' sort of scenario!!

yes, writing is a discipline, but i like the challenge - i was always happoiest creating stories, poems, etc and some do sell, just not enough to do it full time yet

keep at it, specially the poems photocopy them and send them to newspapers, private eye if you can make them satire, you could end up Poet Laureate - Sue and village can be your groupies ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks - newspapers rarely publish poetry - they'd get swamped with submissions because  of their circulation.  Private Eye is mostly written in-house by itsown journalists - I read it a lot.  I have just sold a story to Scarlet, a magazine for women,  but it could be months before that comes out - they have a huge backlog of stuff to print.  A full list of my work in print to date is up at www.arthurchappell.clara.net/publications.htm
I'm starting to make a nuisance of myself on Wikipedia now - hoping they find  an excuse to write a page about my writing there (not allowed to write one myself sadly).
