The talk will be delivered by Michael Parker and is titled 'Themsleves alone:Literary representations of womens lives in 1930-50's Ireland.
This interactive session will involve a discussion of three literary texts that reflect gender politics in Ireland in the mid-twentieth Centure. Brian Friels Dancing at Lughnasa (1990) set in the mid 1930's, poems from Seamus Heaneys's Human Chain (2010) which depict the 1940's, and Colm Toibins Brooklyn (2009) set in the 1950's.
