My first posting on the site and a fairly obsure one I think.
I understand that in 1914 there was a Trade Fair in Manchester which included floats being towed around the streets; one of which was extolling the virtues of milk and stout! My interest in this relates to a team of oxen which were transported to Manchester by train from Sussex and accompanied by the oxman, Charlie Pope of Exceat Farm near Seaford in Sussex. I understand the oxen created a great interest and I wonder if it was reported in any of the local newspapers or magazines. Ideally I am trying to verify the story, and also try and find some text or photo's showing the oxen. A bit of a tall order probably, but if you spend time going through the old newspapers, perhaps you might be able to check it out for me. Sorry, I don't know which month the trade fair took place. The photo attached is of Charlie (Curly) Pope (on left). Many thanks, Ian.
