Did any of your ancestors sing the petition way back in 1807? The people of Manchester made a big difference to the out come and the  abolition of slavery ? Check out the link below and see if any of your family names are on the lists.

I see that Dauntesey Hulme signed the Petition against the Foreign Slave Trade Abolition Bill. He was a Cotton Merchant who lived at 33 Crescent, Salford (Bancks 1800) He presented an annuity of £10,000 to the Infirmary
in 1824. He died 1829 . As far as I'm aware he's not from the same line of Hulmes as my Granny.
