We are all lying in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

Ooooh er, I think I'd have to own up to having uttered at least half of those at some point.  Mither, scrike, fettled, chuddy, lugs, minging, ginnel.... best not let the Cheshire Set round here find out.  They look at you funny if you call a bread roll a barmcake....  ;D

But that's the only other place I've ever seen the expression my mate Anne used to use "seen their a**e" to mean "got annoyed".  I've no idea where that one originated or even what it means.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

Restarting this subject using the search box, caused all sorts of problems. Easier to start afresh, but it's nice to see old posters.   Iwas surprised to see,recently,40 viewers before 9am. and not one post.

From where do we get the expression 'fill your boots', meaning to ...

'Fill your boots'

8 May 2007 - This is a replica of the sailor's mug used on board in Nelson's time, and it was used (among other things) for the rum ration when issued. This cup is called a "boot", and when things were good and you got an extra rum ration, sailors were told "Fill Yer Boots"!

Tree sheets in the wind.         sounds nautical.
