Please help me to find 2 old friends
« on: 23:55:02, 15/02/14 »
Hi
I am looking for 2 special old friends who I lost contact with in the mid 80's -  Deborah Slate and Mark Mckenner who I grow up with until I moved from Gorton to Wales.
We kept in contact with each other until around 1984.
I would dearly love to contact them again and catch up with all the lost years.
Please if you know them, tell them I miss them and ask them to contact me.

Thank you
Mandy Fairhurst

Hi Mandy, I'm sorry you haven't had any replies. I wasn't born or bred in Manchester so can't help. Have you looked in 192.com? It has electoral rolls, it's a pay per view site but I'm told it's not too expensive.
All the best me dear

192 is not good at all.  The records are often old, inaccurate and they charge like a wounded bull once you register and sign in.  You have to pay upfront for credits at £2+ each and they are only sold in bundles, then ANY search you do, ANY record you click costs you a credit.  Unless they owe you serious money, it's not worth the expense.   You can get a few general ideas from it using the free search, but that won't let you see addresses.  I dropped in Mark McKenner a minute ago, and got only two results for someone aged 25-29 in Southampton.  Same person, electoral roll listings from two different years.  Obviously not your man......

I can't think of anything to suggest, other than maybe using something like the Manchester Evening News personal ads to try and get in touch, or having a trawl round facebook.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

Your reply is noted, will advise with caution!
Cheers

Don't get me wrong, I've used it to track down people a few times, and if you have a very distinctive name for searching or a reasonable idea of location and are trying to pin down a street address, you can sometimes get that quickly for a few quid.  It's more or less a collection of electoral roll entries from the last ten years all lumped together.  It has its place, but it's not geared for efficiently finding people from years ago who might have moved anywhere, got married and changed names or even died.   :)
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

Thanks everyone.
I had a big hope that they or a member of their families may use the site.

I have searched the Manchester Evening News, Fbook and all the normal routes but still can't find them.
We are all must older and my fears are we may not see each other again. We shared great childhood memories and I am sure if they know I was looking for them they would be intouch.

Thanks again everyone, I will keep searching.

Hi Mandy
Could she have been Deborah Jean Slate bn 1962?
There is a death for her in Manchester aged 39yrs in Nov 1999.
This means she wouldn't have married. Do you know if she did?
Mark's surname spelling is unusual.
Back later

My childhood friend was Debroah Jean Slate and she was 1yr older than me so that would make her born year 62.

A Very Sad Day - We had great fun together over those years. Bless You Debi x

Did it give any further information please? Where she was laid to rest or her family, her mum was also called Jean and she had a brother called Wayne and 1 called Graham.

Im am not sure how Marks name was spelt, Mckenner - MacKener - MacKenner?

Thank you all for your support xx

It's usually spelt McKenna   (like Paul McKenna)  could be MacKenna as well

I've got a directory from 1985, if I can find it I'll take a look

Manchester Evening News had this 2nd March 2007:
SLATE (DEBORAH JEAN) (WAYNE) - Happy Birthday
Thinking about you Debs and Wayne is easy, we do it every day
Missing you is the heartache, that never goes away
Love you always Mum, Dale, John, Pat, Chris, Graham and Family

So sorry again, but it looks like Wayne has also died.  On the plus side, the family were reading the MEN up to 2007, so I would out money on them placing Deborah's death notice in there in 1999.  As the 2nd March is coming up, you might look out for another birthday notice?

Thank you Cupcake for your findings, very sad indeed for Mandy.
Yes Deborah was born 1962 maiden Prior, Graham D 1957 and Wayne 1959 died 2005 aged 46yrs.
Jean Prior married Douglas S Slate 1956 Gorton, St James (Lancs BMD)
Rest peacefully Deb and Wayne.

I was thinking that if Mandy could get a copy of the death notice from the MEN, there might be a contact number at least for the undertaker, who might put her in touch or pass on a message.

Thank you all for your kind regards and support with my search.
I had forgotten how friendly and helpful us Manchester lot are. xx

I will contact the MEN and chasing up the idea of asking for a copy of the death notice. This may also let me know where Debi is laid to rest and has suggested the undertakers details.

Maybe I could at least show my respects to my dear friend. It is so sad that we become so busy we our lives that we forgot / lose contact with special people once very much in our lives, then begin to reaalise that we miss them when it is to late.

I do appreciate your time and effort you all have given to me.
Once again a BIG thank you. xx
