BRADFORD, Manchester
« on: 08:44:45, 12/04/14 »
from Bob Atkinson:

Did anyone grow up around Bradford, Manchester in the early 1950's?
Looking for anyone from Grange Street School.
Remember the Greengrocers shop in Church/Charlesworth Street?
I was friends with Bob Beard, Billy Wheeldon & George Parry.
I worked down Bradford Pit from 1956.
Thank you.

Hello Bob.I'm a newby on here too.I moved to Bradford from Beswick around 1950 and although I went to Birley Street I had a few mates who went to Grange street.Names that spring to mind are Tommy and Charley Edwards,Jack Pannet and Tommy Mellor whose dad owned the bakers on Charlesworth Street.I lived in Isca Street until 1977 and worked at Johnsons Wire Works until 1969.Cheers

Hi I am new to this site, but I was born at Blackrock St Bradford, in the 1950's, Most of my family lived in the area. and I went to Nanson St, School before my parents moved to Devon in the 1960's.
I have been doing my family history and would love to know where Christ Church was in relation to Blackrock St (both now demolished).

Hi Peggy,Although :she who must be obeyed: is from the area she doesn't know where Christ Church was. My old map only shows street names and marks the places of schools [ 10] and churches [8] all within half a mile of Blackrock St. I find that astonishing.

lozflan,
Thank you for that, though Christ Church must have been somewhere near as my ancestors were Baptist, married, and buried so I would have thought it was quite close. but thank you anyway for looking. Peggy.

Marj.
Thank you for that, I don't think Openshaw was that far away from the Bradford area, pity no photos though, my Mam lived in Openshaw and Dad in Bradford.
