I am a bit peeved, I'm not going to say where because the guy who sold it to me was a nice dude, but gee, the sofa was bad! 2 years later and I'm feeling the wood or whatever the hell it is underneath it. This is the third sofa in 7 years and I cant keep on spending £400 every couple of months.

Anyone know of a place that sells you a decent sofa that'll last, im thinking a nice patchwork chesterfield would do but one that wont rob me clean? I know a place in London but I cant be bothered to drive down, any places where I can pop down during lunch break tomorrow in the near the Manchester city center?

You always need to examine them first before they are auctioned O0

No Jake, I haven't been to a Charles Street auction, only one I went to in Manchester was at the Town Hall

Right, its a good idea though to go to the Charles Street auction to see what they have.

These guys do a patched Chesterfield (http://www.newmanandbright.co.uk/leather-sofas/chesterfield-collection.html) but im not exactly going to fork out 1,200 quid for something new if I can get it second hand in Charles Street.

Can you give me an estimate in your experience how much cheaper I could get a sofa like this one http://www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-hayworth-grand-chesterfield-sofa/p747948 in the auction? John Lewis have it at £1900. What could that go for in the auction?

I think Jean or someone else may be able to give you more help as I've never bought a Chesterfield :)

You talking about good furniture ,reason nable price
and long lasting, here's the tale for you

February 1971,went shopping for a suite, being new to NZ we did,nt know the cost of things.
Well went into this shop chose the chairs and settee,Manager came and told husband I had chosen
the dearest in the shop, 216 pounds...Had it recovered
2 years ago and the chap said you don't find workmanship
like this any longer....It is still going strong,2 chairs both swivel rockers and a three seat settee.  Beat that..

Hope you do or did ok..

What, thats like 45 years of use? Quite unheard of. Nowadays brand new stuff doesnt last you more then 5 years

Well, now I'm trying to find out whether leather or fabric lasts longer. Fabric stains quicker, but I got a feeling its just more homely at the end of the day. So I'm phoning up a few sofa companies to get some feedback on whats better quality, leather or fabric.
