for Piccadilly- the Metro tram is the easiest - the railways stops are as follows:

Altrincham - Navigation Road - Timperley - Brooklands - Sale - Dane Road - Stretford - Old Trafford -Trafford Bar - Cornbrook (for stops up to Eccles and the Lowry Centre) - G.MEX -
St. Peter's Square - Mosley Street - Piccadilly Gardens - Piccadilly (Station)

then there is another route which is the same from Altrincham to St. Peter's Square then - Market Street - Shudehill - Victoria Station - towards North Manchester including stops at Crumpsall, HeatonPark, Prestwich, Besses O' The Barn, Radcliffe, Whitefield, and terminating at Bury

thanks for your info. so looks like u are giving me routes from Altrincham.  I am also looking at areas like Burnage n Didsbury which seem ok n can commute to piccadilly from Burnage in 10 minutes.

Thanks again, will look into it

Chorlton and Hulme sound a bit dodgy when you are looking at the news of shootings today  - perhaps drug related
Or is that type of violence a wider problem in other 'known' areas too ?

inner city violence around Manchester can be a problem, used to be around the Moss Side areas but has spread :(

people are saying levenshulme is a good investment at the moment and you can get the train from burnage to piccadilly, chorlton and didsbury are the most expensive places to live within the city post codes, if you have a family then Sale is a good bet its very "semi-detached" and on the metro with trafford rates which are cheaper, but if you have no kids you may want to look at buying one of the flats that are now springing up arround the city itself.
