I think there are perplexing things about this.

How many men fall in the canals and get out ? How many women fall in the canals and get out.

So far it appears that every male that falls in the canal dies. No women fall in and die.
Birmingham has many miles of canals, including in the centre. Does the same happen there ?

I think men take more risks than women Ray, for men it may be losing their judgement after too much alcohol and for the fewer women who don't seem to get home early enough their demise happens after midnight but not near canals it would seem.

This sounds like an accident his age does not match the m.o so far but then again , the pusher could be not as picky as before.

Another one found yesterday afternoon.

M.E.N
The body of a man has been found in the Manchester Ship Canal in Eccles.

Emergency services raced to Langland Drive, in Peel Green, Salford, after he was discovered at 1.15pm this afternoon.

The fire service said three crews, including the specialist water incident unit, were dispatched after they police alerted them to reports of someone in the water.

However the man was declared dead at the scene.

Police say a probe has been launched and the death is being treated as unexplained, with enquiries on-going.

The area around the scene, which is behind a new housing estate and close to the Barton Swing Bridge, has been cordoned off whilst officers recover the body.

The spot, which is across the water from the Chill Factore and the Trafford Centre, and is said to be popular with dog walkers, remains closed this evening.

Just thought i'd keep this thread updated

I googled 'eccles canal death' the other day and found an article on SalfordOnline.com. At the bottom is a comments section linked to facebook where some of the man's relatives are responding to comments. One of the comments mentions that the man was Michael Gibbo Mcfarland.
His daughter also posted a comment saying something along the lines of 'I don't want to think that my dad could have been murdered' I can't see the comment on there today so I can only assume she has removed it. This would indicate to me that it was not suicide because people usually leave notes for loved ones. I use to live about 2 minutes around the corner from where the body was recovered and walked my dog on that path regularly. It simply loops around from one end of a dead end street to the other, what i'm saying is he had no reason to be walking there as a shortcut. It seems rather odd to me how he ended up in the canal.

Salfordonline has updated the story today

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was found dead in the Manchester Ship Canal in Peel Green, Eccles.

Michael Gibney, 34, originally from Baguley, was sadly discovered in the water on the afternoon of Friday 11 September 2015.

At around 1.15pm that day, police cordoned off a small patch of grass leading down to the canalside off Langland Drive, an area popular with dog walkers and families.

Detectives believe there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

But they are trying to trace his final movements and need to hear from any members of the public who believe they may have seen Michael in the Patricroft area around 9pm on Thursday 10 September 2015.

Michael is described as white, around 6ft tall, medium build, with fair-coloured hair.

He was wearing a black Nike Air hooded jacket, grey Adidas tracksuit bottoms and grey Adidas trainers.

Detective Sergeant Peter Morris said: “We are trying to trace the last movements of Michael before he died, and we know that he was seen in the Eccles the night before he was found.

“If you believe you may have seen Michael in the Patricroft area on Thursday night or in the early hours of Friday morning, please contact police and let us know what you saw.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5470 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Not suspicious...
