Notice today the skyline.. Building work is everywhere in Manchester.
It's time we put Manchester on the map ..let's get the biggest building in.the world built here.

Who's for it?

We do it right we could get the didsbury jet set in its shadow all day :-*

I don't think this has crossed many peoples' minds - I include myself in that - and certainly not Pat Karney's council members.

Next time the son chats with Mr Karney I'll make sure he mentions this O0??

Have you any type of building in mind?

France has the Pyramid, what about a Rocket?

France had a pyramid?.. Have you forgotten the mighty Stockport pyramid.

Well I have noticed these buildings are to be honest falic symbols so how about we build an o shape building to confuse everyone.
Pride and all that :smitten:

Or we could build the biggest pounland the world has ever seen!

I don't know (obviously) what he is saying but there are over 800 comments and the only one in English is about Israel being the good friend of the USA, and that's in French

Lets build the worlds biggest solar panel building, a building just covered almost entirely with solar panels to produce as much free energy as possible and then everyone in Manchester can finally have free energy, we pay enough taxes as it is, maybe it 's time the taxes we paid were more worthwhile and actually gave us something back.

I don't know, maybe I'm asking for too much by being sensible about how our taxes are used, lol.

I like you already....

I remember reading that new Islington that homes were going to be powered by thermal energy . what ever happened to that? Are any homes on the free energy?

Actually it's not a bad idea. I'm for it a few of tall buildings would take the pressure of the housing. It would be rather exciting I think.

I have no idea about what happened with new Islington homes project, but there's a house on my street just a few doors away from mine, an end terrace house which has had solar panels installed onto its roof.

I have no idea who lives there and whether they have completely free energy, but I sure as hell reckon that their energy costs will be much reduced if not negated and if they're lucky enough to be producing more energy than they need then they'll be making a little profit from selling that energy back to energy companies.

I'm going to be conducting an experiment to at least try and replace one plug socket with a solar powered system to see how feasible it is to do on the cheap.  Well I'll do it when I find some time for it at least, lol :P

I just feel we're still living in the dark ages, surrounded by all of this technology that we can do nothing with other than look at and imagine what life would be like with it whilst we suffer continuous power cuts due to the higher demands in energy usage as we rely on more and more of it to live our lives and the energy companies endlessly trying to meet those demands.  I seriously question why we even need energy companies in this day and age, we have to make better use of the technology available to us and that's where the government needs to step in, putting our taxes to do something useful rather than wasting it on stupid projects that although may look good and sound like a good idea, end up doing nothing for us people living here at the end of the day, just look at The Millennium Dome for a classic example of a waste of tax money.  What's the point of building something that has no use using tax money and then wasting more tax money trying to find a use for it afterwards.

Solar, although I,ve not got it,you need to change to electric heating to do it right, latest panels and bulbs.
Then when you are not using power you make money selling to the Grid. Use some and its free, with limits.
The down side ,its expensive to install and takes many years to recover the cost.
Politicians and nappies must be changed often, and for the same reason

Pretty much all of that is true to an extent, yes to make the most of it you do need electric heating, unless you get the type of solar panels that actually heat the water for you, in place of the boiler, or just get an electric boiler that renews some of its energy back into the system.  I would say the latest most efficient panels are an absolute must particularly in this Country as the best panels probably aren't even 20% efficient.  Bulbs, well that depends on how much electricity you use from what you produce, but yes, every little helps :)

It's very expensive at the moment and would take a lifetime to recover those costs, that's mainly due to them not selling like hotcakes, once that starts to happen then prices will come down.  Ideally though the taxes that we pay should be used more effectively than they are and they should at least partially if not fully contribute to us all having clean renewable energy on a large scale.

Do you mean solar panels or tall buildings or both even?

They may well be, but I would prefer free, clean, renewable energy to the constant rising energy bills and power outages, we'll never live in a modern world until we start making use of the most modern technologies on a large scale basis for everyone rather than the few that can afford it, we'll just remain in the dark ages watching technology getting better but not actually ever really doing anything for us in reality.
