I've sent a complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission on my experiences - still livid a week later - it actually makes me apprehensive every time a policeman walks or drives past, and even the sight of distant kids makes me look away in case anyone thinks i'm staring at them - quite horrible to be reduced to such a mood.

hope you have kept a few copies, if you don't get answers you can pass the whole business on to your MP, or can you download anything from here if necessary? :)

This could happen to anyone! Just taking a walk through the park...spot an empty bench... sit down for a rest.... gaze idly around...next minute... police in front of you!! This is not on!! >:(

did I mention I walked through the gardens yesterday, plenty of lone men around, some could have been detectives in plain clothes, there were male and female teenagers running through the fountains, too many people there for anyone not to notice children being "approached"

Totally agree Celeste - and people had to have looked at me to know I was there at all - makes me wonder if I should counter-claim on their voyeurism to me at which point things just get silly

Quite - and to me you'd have to make an approach to even be considered a threat - just seeing what was going on is inevitable in such an open viewing area. What I hope will really freak the poloice out is that the CCTV will show my previous visit to the area - at 7 am in the morning when there was no water and no kids in sight - i stayed for an hour then too - I saw only the bin emptiers, someone with a giant ghetto blaster and people giving out free newspapers - maybe it was them It was stalking.

The problem is that it can be rather unfair and  insidious to the mind to be targetted thus and makes you question yourself, but then upon self-examination, you find that in no way are you interested in children in a depraved way and everything is perfectly alright after all
Remember it is a completely normal instinct to be able to like children and enjoy their presence, despite the current paranoia at every opportunity

It did get me worried for a bit, in my experience, but on reflection I had to joke about how little meat kids have on them anyway  :D :D
So the answer is to put yourself in the position the Police are suggesting and then turn the tables by dismissing the virtual accusation by a put-down that shows a healthy contempt  8)

no response at all - just acknowledgement of receipt of my complaint - very distressing waiting and waiting like this  - sent a complaint about how long its taking which also got no response

My stop And Search nightmare seems to be drawing to a satisfactory conclusion, two months after it ought to have done.

Things started badly though -
The police phoned me yesterday, in effect telling my parents that there was something involving their son with the authorities, which I had not told them about so as not to distress them – nor had I given the police my phone number – as I hoped for postal confirmation, as I am now promised.

Te police phoned again this morning and caught me in before I set off for work – they have watched the CCTV footage of me being interviewed, which they said initially shows me not being searched as I emptied my bag – not the police – I reasoned angrily that I only emptied my bag out because they insisted on it and asked why I or anyone would simply empty bags and pockets out to the cops unless it was requested by them – the chap I spoke to conceded that this was in effect a search – he also assured me that the officers had no business in finding no evidence against me for telling me not to return to the water-feature –

That they wondered why I was at the fountain and asked me to account for myself is not something I object to – it is how they behaved once their case collapsed – that my behaviour was not suspicious should have ended matters – they deny accusing me of using a camera – the item they were searching for – and as the CCTV footage is audio only, that is their word against mine – I am in effect free to return to the fountain as I wish – I shall of course wait until I see this in writing, but I consider this a clearing of my name on my part and I see nothing to gain in pursuing the matter further at this stage – thanks all round for support and advice and feedback on this
