its not a bad system except for the clock reminder on library computers that keeps popping up to tell you to save stuff and prepare to log off even minutes before you are due to do so.

During the Siege of Chester in the Civil War, the Old Hall, Christleton,  was probably the headquarters of the Parliamentary Army, for six months.

(I mention this because that wonderful actor Daniel Craig was brought up in Christleton and went to school there)

Good a reason as any - you can still see bullet holes in one of the towers on the wall around Chester - one shot missed the King by inches there - Bond wouldn't have missed.

No he wouldn't, good point, not really spent a lot of time in Chester, have been on the wall, but would like to walk on the banks of the Dee on a nice summer's day, when were you last in Chester Arthur and is there a war museum there?

Been to the town twice now - there was a Humanism conference there in the 1990's and about two years ago our regimente met up with some friends there for a drink as they rarely had a chance to visit Manchester - Don't know of a war museum  there -there are plaques ariund the walls - etc -  the wall walk is lovely and there are Mississippi style river boats on the Dee and a great shopping area too - Used to go to the zoo a lot as a kid with school trips, etc too

Yes I went to the zoo, where I saw the ugliest animal ever - a warthog - took a picture of it, don't even know if there is a zoo there now.  The shopping centre has everything, I particularly like the two tier shopping parades, but the main feature of course are the city gates - works of art indeed.

The zoo is still going - it was great having that and Belle Vue at one time, though the opening of Knowsley Safari Park in the North west as well proved to be too much - though it was property development greed that killed Belle Vue off - I remember an elephant taking a guy's wig off his head there - caused lots of laughter and embarrassment for him

Ohonly been once to Knowsley Safari Park, but it was good, monkey on the car bonnet.  Was there ever a picture of the elephant waking the man's wig off, it would probably won a competition?  ;D

It would have made a great You've Been Framed or ome such but if anyone pictured it, it wasn't me - I like Knowsley -  though it was once horrible in a car with no air conditioning in a heat wave trapped in the monkey enclosure and not being able to wind down windows. - Once saw a guy trying to get in on a motorbike - he wondered why they refused to let him in. Quite ndignant about it - butthey kicked him out - he'd have been torn to pieces by the baboons - they are really viscous

what an idiot, he'd have been knocked flying at the very least, but then we might mhave seen the first motorbike driven by a monkey - or perhaps there have been others :D :D ;D

It would have been fun to see an ape with a Kawasaki or a Harley - hope he'd remember his crash helmet...

http://www.arthurchappell.clara.net/eastercon2002.htm This includes my  report on a visit to Jersey's amazing Gerald Durrel Zoo, which specializes in saving endangered species.  It's mainly a report on a convention I went to, but it includes my tourist activity too and this is possibly the best zoo on Earth.

It's most likely to be Nantwich, near Crewe  in January 2008 - always a good event  - this year's august event there was a one off - the January show is an annual one and you'll find us in most pubs in the town before and after the event - always great fun.

Roy was born in Nantwich, as soon as I make him really famous you will recognize his house - the one with the blue plaque above the door :D
