Fish and Chips
« on: 15:53:18, 21/12/17 »
Hi Everyone

I am coming home for a week in the new year, its been over 10 yrs since I was last home ( live in the US )

Are there still any good traditional fish and chip shops left in the Middleton / Chadderton area ?

I remember " Tommy's " in middleton, but I think they may have closed down ?

Any recommendation's for a good Indian restaurant would also be welcome .

Cheers
Gordon

Hi Gordon,
The small Tommy's chippy is still there, the one past the bus station on the left, and it's still as good as ever. My wife and granddaughter call in quite ofton on a Saturday. :smitten:

Making me hungry as well, as I just had a lovely thought remembering the squishing sound a Hollands steak & kidney pudding makes when you jab your fork in the top !

Funny that! we have had a Hollands SP for tea, cooked from frozen. I was hoping to get to Witherspoons  for f/@ chips but didn't find the time, that would have been the best choice.

Hi Gang

Well, arrived back eventually after several bouts of severe turbulence due to the storms going through New York, but had a great time in Manchester, its actually 12 years since I have been back.

Great fish & chips at" The Mod Cod" on Taylor st Middleton, and a lovely Steak pudding dinner at the Horton Arms in Chadderton.
Met some old squash friends at Rochdale cricket club, and was sad to hear of the demise of up and coming young squash players, it seems the game is not that popular anymore ?

Enjoyed the Rose of Lancaster, and the Lancashire Fold,...2 great little pubs . Only had time for one Indian meal unfortunately, and had some great food at " The True Taste" Indian restaurant in Norden village.

Apart from rain and high winds every day, it was a lovely visit home  O0

Regards to all
Gordon

Never been in those pubs, Gordon, but I bet they all serve a fair old pint!

God, I could murder a refreshing glass of ale right now. But then again I usually can....... :)

Missing "A glass of ale " already

John Willie Lees was always an acquired taste, but boy, did those pints of bitter taste good after 12 yrs of "Bud Light " !!

Cheers
