National Antham
« on: 21:01:35, 03/04/18 »
The Commonweath games start tomorrow, isn't it time England had it's own National Anthem? Scotland and Wales have their own, Don't know about N Ireland.
I suggest  ' I vow to thee'

I’ve always said that it’s a terrible embarrassing National anthem and I’m as patriotic as the next man to my country but not to one person,

I'd choose 'Jerusalem' by William Blake and Hubert Parry

Couldn't agree more about God Save the Queen.

I like Jerusalem, I have a copy by the Irish tenor,  John McCormack, Shouldn't think he ever sung it in the Republic though, or the Bogside for that matter ;D

The National Anthem was played in cinemas every night after the last film was shown. There was a big rush for the door before it started. For many films kids were not allowed in without an adult. Most adults would obliged when asked "will you take me in please?"
One time at the New Royal, Ashton New Rd, at about 13 years I was very annoyed. When they wouldnt let me in for an A film (16 years minimum age).Because they had just let in a couple of boys who I reckond looked younger than me.I ran home and put on my Dads suit, collar and tie. Then went back to the New Royal and they let me in ! Dont mess with Tex.The first time I tied my own shoe laces was in anger. My parents had done something I very much disagreed with and I wouldnt allow them to tie my laces.I
Realise now that was their intention, cunning devils, how heartless can you get.

The great Billy Connoly summed it up brilliantly.

Try this link to youtube   if it doesn't work just type in Billy Connoly National Anthem on youtube

( make note of how young all the celebs look )

https://youtu.be/i9nnnM-__JQ

I wont spoil it, but his choice for a replacement at the end is hilarious

Cheers

The theame from dad's army mixed with step toe and son.

As this country is still obsessed with ww2 and is pretty much a scrap yard of old industry gone by.

National anthem ? There's not much to sing about to be honest it's all owned by foreign investors .
