Moving to Manchester (sure you've answered this a million times)

Hello...

I'm moving to Manchester as a young professional (I'm 23) and am trying to get an idea of where i should be looking. So far my finds have discovered Didsbury, West Disbury, Withington and such area. But could really do with an idea of how far from the city centre (should i fancy a proper night out) and airport (work) they are etc.

I'm after a safe area (so the car doesnt get broken into again). I lived in Sheffield for 3 years and birmingham for the last year so have visited Manchester city centre many times but really don't see the point of city centre living as im more into local bars/pubs. I basically dont want to get stuck next to the local council estate with the 15 yrs on my doorstep.

there is Rusholme, which is known as the "curry mile"  Lots of restaurants, and buses. I don't if it a what you call a "rough" area to live though.  I used to work at the airport and the buses that went there were the 43 and 44 - I don't know if that has changed, they went along the main Wilmslow or Palentine Road through Northendon, Gatley to the Airport.
