Yes, the astrological alignments are a little challenging at the moment but wait for even more fireworks next year with Uranus doing his edge of chaos orbits.

An ISIS sympathiser who collected magazines and articles on terrorist tactics has been jailed.

Atiq Ahmed (30/07/1983) of Copster Hill Road, #Oldham was sentenced to four years and six months in prison at Manchester Crown Court today (Thursday 13 September 2018) after previously pleading guilty to five counts of possessing information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism (Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000).

He was also given a 10-year criminal behaviour order, which will come into effect after he has served his jail term. Under the order, he will be required to give officers access to any devices upon demand to see whether he is accessing terrorist related material.

The court heard how in October 2017, Ahmed was arrested after religiously abusing staff at a school in Oldham.

During his arrest, his phone was seized and, following thorough forensic examinations of the phone, several files of so-called Islamic State propaganda were uncovered.

Following the discovery, Ahmed was arrested in December 2017. A search warrant was then executed at his home on Copster Hill Road and a number of electronic devices were seized.

Among the seized devices was an electronic tablet that Counter Terrorism officers found in the kitchen bin. It contained a 16GB memory card with multiple issues of an extremist magazine.

Articles in the magazines included information on terrorist tactics, instructions on how to make a viable device and ISIS propaganda.

Detective Superintendent Will Chatterton, Head of Investigations for Counter Terrorism Policing North West, said: “Ahmed actively tried to hide his electronic devices from officers by disposing of them in a kitchen bin. He also refused to give officers initial access to them in a further attempt to conceal the disturbing material that he stored on them.

“This sentence comes as a result of the dedicated work by Counter Terrorism Policing North West officers who have trawled through large amounts of data to ensure we achieved the result we have today.

“We also worked closely with GMP’s neighbourhood officers across Oldham and I would like to thank them for their part in this investigation. Without their extensive enquiries when Ahmed was first reported to us, we wouldn’t be in this position today.

“This outcome was made possible by a victim of hate crime coming forward and reporting an atrocious incident to the police. The school put their trust in us by doing so and I hope that they can take some comfort from knowing Ahmed is now behind bars.”

To report any suspicious activity call police on 0800 789 321.

Anyone who sees extremist content online can report their concerns anonymously to specialist officers at the world-leading Counter Terrorism Internet Referral Unit at www.gov.uk/report-terrorism

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being shot twice through a closed front door.

The 21-year-old was hit by two bullets at 21:35 BST on Thursday at Ermington Drive in Cheetham Hill, Manchester.

Police went to the house after the shooting but found that the victim had already been taken to hospital.

He remains there in a life threatening condition, and a police spokesman said an "investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing".

No arrests have been made, and the spokesman said it was too early to say if the shooting was targeted.

Officers investigating a fail-to-stop collision in #Longsight are trying to identify the owners of a bin.

Around 6.30pm on Monday (10 September), police were called to Stanley Grove to reports of a collision involving a blue Toyota Avensis and a stationary, unattended blue Fiat Stilo.

Just moments later, the Toyota was involved in another collision with a Mercedes Sprinter mini bus.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s were taken to hospital where the man remains in a life-threatening condition. The woman has since been discharged.

Three teenagers were initially arrested but they have all been released without any further action and have been eliminated from enquiries.

Yesterday morning (Friday 14 September) officers executed a warrant at a house in Gorton.

Three other teenagers – aged 13, 17 and 19 – were arrested.  The 13-year-old boy and 19-year-old man have since been released under investigation and the 17-year-old boy remains in police custody.

When officers retrieved the Toyota, they found a large amount of waste inside, consisting of tiles and carpets, that appears to have come from a house clearance. Pictures of inside the car have been released and anyone who recognises the waste is encouraged to get in touch.

Police Sergeant Lee Westhead of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I appreciate this is quite an unusual line of enquiry but we’re hoping that by tracing the steps back to where this waste is from, we’ll be able to find that final piece of the jigsaw and identify who is responsible.

“You will notice there’s a black recycling-type bin in the car with the number 407 on it – do you live at number 407? Does this number mean anything to you? Have you recently had a clear-out?

“At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that the owners of the waste are in any way involved so they’re not in any trouble but it’s important that we speak to them so I encourage anyone who knows anything about this to call us immediately.”

Anyone with information should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting reference number 1627 of 10/09/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Police have released images of a man they want to speak to after two men were left with serious facial injuries following unprovoked assaults in Salford.

Shortly before 4.50pm on Sunday 3 September 2018 on Bury New Road, Lower Broughton, Salford, 71-year-old David Miskin was walking past Quick Fit in the direction of Prestwich when he noticed a man stood in front of him.

Without any warning, the man began to punch him repeatedly, knocking him to the floor and leaving him with a broken jaw in numerous places.

The offender then ran off towards Manchester.

A passer-by took a photo of a man running away from the scene shortly afterwards.

While police were at hospital dealing with the assault, they were made aware of a second hospital patient who had also been assaulted around the same time and location.

The victim, a 56-year-old man, had been walking along Bury New Road, close to Happy Feet Nursery, when he was approached by a man who asked him for the time.

The man didn’t have the chance to reach into his pocket for his phone before he was punched to the floor, before being repeatedly punched while he lay on the ground unconscious.

His jaw was broken in three places.

The two assaults are being treated as linked.

Police Constable Christopher Wood of GMP’s Salford Division said: “These were two violent and totally unprovoked assaults on two men who were simply minding their own business.

“We believe that the same person is responsible for both of these assaults and it is critical that we trace the offender and bring them to justice.

“If you recognise the man pictured, saw them in the area at the time, or have any information, please contact police immediately.”

Information can be left with police on 0161 856 1319 quoting incident number 1764 of 02/09/18.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
