An armed gang has stolen a safe containing at least £50,000 from a woman in Wigan in a targeted burglary.

The three men, armed with a machete and pepper spray, broke into the victim's home in Bickershaw on Tuesday night.

Police said the woman - who is in her 60s - was saving the money to support her vulnerable son in the future.

There were no injuries and no arrests have been made. Det Insp Patrick Wood said stealing her life savings was a "despicable crime".

He said: "We believe this to be a targeted incident and are appealing to the public to find those responsible.

"A small safe with at least £50,000 in cash is believed to have been stolen from the property - these were the victim's life savings which had been painstakingly saved over a long period of time and were in place to support her vulnerable son in the future when the victim was unable to care for him herself."

A jogger was held at knifepoint for his Rolex watch at a popular Greater Manchester beauty spot.

The runner was targeted by two robbers at Sale Water Park in Trafford on Wednesday evening.

The men demanded the watch and then fled on mountain bikes towards Stretford Cemetery, Greater Manchester Police said.

The valuable stainless steel Rolex Submariner can sell for more than £10,000.

One of the robbers was tall and wearing a black puffer jacket and tracksuit bottoms while the other was of "slight build" and wearing a dark grey tracksuit zip-up top with a hood, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

A man who violently raped a 60-year-old woman causing her to lose consciousness multiple times has been jailed.

Brian Brough, 35, tricked his way into the victim's home in Little Hulton, Salford, by pretending to be a relative of a neighbour on 19 March 2021.




"He did not even have the decency to attend his trial and face up to his actions and instead refused to come out of his prison cell with the trial having to be heard in his absence.

"His lack of remorse perfectly sums up who he is as a human being."
Greater Manchester Police said Brough then subjected the woman to a "horrific and sustained" attack leaving her with a fractured jaw and missing teeth.

He was jailed for 18 years at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.

I'm now certain that a park-keeper and cctv (to monitor who is entering/leaving the park) is necessary,  and perhaps they should be closed earlier.


It's obvious that they are being used for malpractices and attacks on the vulnerable - haven't the police noticed?

Can't close it, the gates were removed years back, the park is only small and is used without any issues by the local kids, indeed when we first lived in the area some kids pitched a tent in there during the holidays and stayed out in it no problems at all, times change I  guess

Another park attack

A woman has been "left extremely shook up" after a man posing as a taxi driver pulled her into bushes in a park and tried to attack her, police have said.
Greater Manchester Police said the man approached the woman in Platt Fields Park on Wilmslow Road, Manchester, at about 23:00 BST on Saturday.

A spokesman said the man then pulled her into bushes, but she screamed for help from passers-by and he ran off.




Det Ch Insp Anthony Norman said it had been a "horrific" attack.

The force spokesman said the man had fled towards Yew Tree Road and was described as Asian and in his 30s, with short, dark cropped hair and short, dark full beard, and wearing a black coat.

He was last seen running towards Yew Tree Road.

Appealing for information, Det Ch Insp Norman said it was "a horrific attack on a woman who thankfully managed to raise the alarm but has been left extremely shook up".

He added that the woman was now "receiving the support she needs".

I’ve just looked it up (in case my memory has been playing tricks) but, yes, I can confirm that the legal whores….oops, I mean ‘lawyers’……representing her deeply p@rv@ted r@p@st killer have launched a campaign to get him out of jail. At present they are performing on the pretext of having his full-life tariff reduced to mere “decades” but, as anyone with an ounce of common sense will recognise, this will escalate into a get-out-of-jail-free card.


Not for the first time, I wonder how some people can get to sleep at night. Or maybe they don’t?

Heartless vandals trashed the grave of a World War Two veteran at a cemetery in north Manchester. A group of youths are believed to have targeted several graves at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Moston[/b] last Sunday (June 26).
Karol Kamil Peruta discovered the damage in the Polish section of the cemetery, off Moston Lane, the next morning. A sculpture on one grave was 'destroyed' while litter including dog excrement, empty beer bottles and snap bags of drugs were strewn across others.[/font][/color]

A video of a gang attacking a man in the street has prompted calls for more visible police in a town after the footage went viral and "outraged" the community.

Hundreds of people have raised concerns about the assault in an alley in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

After the video emerged on Saturday three homes in Oldham were attacked in retaliation, police said.

Three people have since been arrested in connection with the street attack.

The victim was hit, kicked and stripped during the assault off Featherstall Road North on 21 June, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Three properties in Westwood and Werneth were later targeted by a group of people.
