My ancestor Frank White b.1862 Manchester
« on: 17:07:26, 09/09/19 »

Hi all,

Just a long shot and hope that someone can help. I'm tring to find the background of my great grandfather Frank White (1862 - 1937). The best we know is he was a fish dealer or pedlar, and I think he appears in the 1911 census in Wisbech, but born Manchester, listed as a pedlar (the transcription says 'packer', incorrectly. Backwards of that the trail for me goes cold. Every time I think I've found the right FW b.1862 I follow him through the census and find I'm wrong e.g. I find one that's a tobacco seller or grocer or something close to a salesman in say 1891, but he then appears in 1911 all happy and settled and the marriage years don't tie etc etc.

Frank White eventually lived in Birmingham where my family are all from (although I happen to have been born in Wythenshawe Hospital!). He died in 1937 in Birmingham, aged 74 according to his death certificate, and had seven children with Susan Sylvia Gamble (1882-1936, b. Leicester). I can't find any evidence of their marriage, and he was already 53 when he had his first of 7 children with Susan. It is likely he had a previous marriage and didn't marry Susan.

What I know as concrete is that he and my GGM Susan Syvia White nee Gamble met sometime after 1911 and had the below children. I can't find any evidence of their marriage, and he was already 53 when he had his first of 7 children with Susan. It is likely he had a previous marriage and didn't marry Susan.

Francis Edgar 1916-2001Reginald 1918-1919Sylvia Susan 1919-2005 (my grandmother)Bernard Reginald 1920-1996Norman James 1921-2004Margaret 1923 (all events unknown, no family knowledge of this person - found via BMD)John Henry 1925-1989I think the common name and the lack of known history is causing this to be a real challenge so any help I can get would be appreciated!

Thanks

Tom

There are trees on Ancestry.co.uk
None of them have a marriage, yet they name Frank as husband
