1. Restrictions to be eased in parts of northern England
Lockdown restrictions put in place in parts of Greater Manchester, Lancashire and West Yorkshire are to be lifted on 2 September thanks to what the government described as "positive progress".

Restrictions on two households mixing, which were introduced last month, will be eased in Bolton, Stockport, Trafford, Burnley, and Hyndburn as well as parts of Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees. But Leicester's restrictions will remain in place for now. Find out more about the changes here.....

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire spread to three houses where children were sleeping.
The blaze, thought to have been started deliberately, broke out on Devon Road in Partington, Trafford, shortly before 04:00 GMT on Saturday, police said.

No one was injured but three homes were damaged in what police described as a "reckless attack".
Two men, aged 47 and 49 are being held on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
The fire is believed to have started at the back of one of the properties before spreading up into the loft area, Greater Manchester Police said.

"Children were present, sleeping in their beds at the time," Det Sgt John Seaton said.
"Fortunately no one was injured during this reckless attack. However, the consequences could have been disastrous.
"Although we have made two arrests, our investigation is still ongoing and I appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this attack or have any information surrounding this fire to please contact police."

A stalker who punched his victim more than 30 times before stealing £35,000 from another woman has been jailed.

Daniel O'Donnell, 30, of no fixed abode, admitted stealing two safes, which contained expensive jewellery and money, from a 70-year-old woman's home in Denton, Tameside, in November 2020.

His fingerprint was found on the back door, police said.

He was sentenced to five years for assault, stalking and burglary at Bolton Crown Court.

I don't know which is more infuriating,  a man who punches a woman ih her seventies or the judge who gave such a measly sentence.

What must their families think of them after reading this!

This is the REAL pandemic we should be concerned about. I follow a number of the online child protection teams and, believe me, never a day goes by without another dangerous monster being taken (temporarily) off our streets. Many of them are second or third time reoffenders. They are simply unable to control their dangerous and destructive urges.
