Does anyone know of any good public displays this year?

the best firework displays are the ones organised by schools these days.  I think fireworks should be kept for November 5th, for safetys sake -the animals must wonder what's happening, and they have to go through it night after night not knowing it will subside,  perhaps if it was a special occasion people could come to an arrangement with their local council, but generally it is better if the fireworks are supervised.

I agree — but even supervised fireworks have on occasions proved disastrous.

You have to be bordering on the edges of legality to make serious money.

Not without claiming the First and Fifth Amendment. There are lots of things you can do in business that sort of ‘skirt’ the law. They’s legal, until some Minister or other closes the loophole. ‘Opportunities’ also come along, especially if those bearing them know you’ve got a supply of ready cash. I’ve never gone down that line because they are most definitely illegal.

no i wouldnt have thought you would,  are you anything like Tom King in Emmerdale, have you retained any of the Yorkshire stereotype, i.e. dour and very outspoken?

I’m by no means dour — quite the opposite. But I am outspoken and don’t care where. Once went to quite a big function following a Mayor-making ceremony. The Mayoress was showing off her new fur coat to her friends and inviting praise (although she implied comment) so I told her it would have looked better live, on the animals.

Surprisngly, it had an effect. I heard later on the grapevine that she never wore it again! Should add that I was also branch secretary of the RSPCA at the time!

celeste . . . I don't wear anything with a face, either - in fact, I took Joanna Lumley down to my local Oxfam shop a few months ago!  ??? :D ;)
