The government's decision to scale back high-speed rail plans has been branded a "betrayal" of northern England.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps confirmed the eastern leg of HS2 - running from the East Midlands to Leeds - had been cut.

Just goes to show how out of touch some of these talking heads truly are. The entire HS2 project should never have seen the light of day; it might have made some kind of sense forty years ago, but certainly not now.

The fact is that HS2 did very little for the Northern Powerhouse.  West to East and the lack of transport options across the pennines is where the bigger issues lie.

It holds back the development of Manchester Airport as a true global Cargo gateway.  We have runways which can handle the largest of aircraft yet Heathrow is choking under cargo as the M62 isn't enough.  Both rail cargo and road options are needed to work and bring business into the North of the UK.  Manchester may be in the North West but would be a great option into the North East.

What the Railway's realy need, more carriages or trains.
One of ours does regular,S.Coast,Mcr.Scotland journeys,NEVER EVER gets a seat, after paying a fortune.
Politicians and nappies must be changed often, and for the same reason
