HI Lou Lou
I was born and brought up in Harpurhey from 1941 till I moved to Langley estate in 1954.
the Foy brothers Tommy and Jimmy ?,were friends of the family,
especially my gran who lived in westbourne grove opposite Bernard Mannings Embassy club.
They had a "bookies runner " who collected bets from a garage at the rear of a block of shops on Langley, his name was Tommy Fallon
one day I went to put a bet on and he informed me that he had been discussing me he had been talking to Tommy foy about me and they thought I would be suitable as a jockey and had made arrangements with Harry Blackshaw, a trainer in Middleham yorkshire and told me I was booked on the 3.15 train in 2 days time subject to my parents approval.
I went to the stables and did a few months before I realised I had no interest in horses so came home.
I occasionaly think would I have made it as a jockey?
Nice to talk to you about the Foys.
