Landlords have been urged by a watchdog to "act now" after tens of thousands of properties were found to have "notable" damp and mould.

It comes after the death of toddler Awaab Ishak[/size], who was exposed to mould in his home in Rochdale in 2020.

The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) found between 120,000 and 160,000 of social homes in England were estimated to have "notable" issues.

About 40,000 to 80,000 were thought to have serious issues.

A coroner ruled two-year-old Awaab died from a respiratory condition caused by exposure to serious mould in his flat.

The toddler's father had repeatedly raised the issue with Rochdale Boroughwide Housing but no action was taken.

The RSH later found "widespread failings" at the housing association that owned the flat Awaab had lived in.

I don’t doubt there is mould in some properties but if it’s not widespread the householder should get a sponge , a bottle of bleach and  a bottle of mould remover , I have a small amount of mould in the bathroom but it’s easily removed , I also read somewhere that a family who are in the news regarding damp and mould never opened the windows to get fresh air in ,the curtains and blinds were completely closed and couldn’t be bothered to attempt to get rid of the mould ,  family also went home to their native country for three months ,

Absolutely spot on Parky, part of my job was remedial work to remove mould from council homes, mainly bathroom and kitchen, but unless the occupier kept on top of it by ventilating the property it will always return, some tenants didn't even open their curtains let alone windows.
