Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has warned police chiefs of a "growing consensus that mob rule is replacing democratic rule".

He wants more robust police responses that he says are needed to protect politicians and democratic processes.

This includes an "immediate response" from police to intimidatory protest at MPs' homes.

But human rights group Amnesty International says the PM "wildly exaggerates the issue".

Mr Sunak was speaking the day after the Home Office announced a £31m package aimed at protecting MPs, stating it was in response to the impact of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Now police bosses have been summoned to Downing Street, where the PM urged them to use existing powers to crack down on intimidation, disruption and subversion "urgently".

He said: "We simply cannot allow this pattern of increasingly violent and intimidatory behaviour which is, as far as anyone can see, intended to shout down free debate and stop elected representatives doing their job.

"That is simply undemocratic... I am going to do whatever it requires to protect our democracy and our values that we all hold dear.

"That is what the public expect. It is fundamental to our democratic system. And also it is vital for maintaining public confidence in the police."

Terror leader calls on Palestinians in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria to storm the Al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount on the first day of Ramadan.
The terror leader called on Palestinians in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria to storm the Al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount on the first day of Ramadan.
By JNS
Ismail Haniyeh, the Doha-based leader of Hamas’s “political” wing, on Wednesday urged the Iran-led “Axis of Resistance” to step up attacks on Israel during Ramadan, calling for a “broad and international movement to break the siege on Al-Aqsa mosque” in Jerusalem.
“Any flexibility in negotiations, out of concern for the blood of our people, is matched by a readiness to defend it,” Haniyeh said in a speech, referring to ongoing talks for a ceasefire deal with Israel.
The “Axis of Resistance” includes Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, the Houthis and other Iranian-backed terrorist groups in the Middle East.
In his speech, the terror leader also called on Palestinians in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria to storm the Al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount on the first day of Ramadan, which falls around March 10 this year.
Haniyeh’s comments came a day after Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant warned that terrorist groups are plotting to increase their violent attacks on the Jewish state under the guise of Ramadan.
“The main goal of Hamas is to take Ramadan, with an emphasis on the Temple Mount and Jerusalem, and turn it into the second phase of their plan that began on October 7. This is the main goal of Hamas, and it is being amplified by Iran and Hezbollah,” Gallant said following an assessment at the headquarters in Jerusalem’s Neve Ya’akov neighbourhood of the IDF Central Command, which is responsible for Judea and Samaria.
“We must not give Hamas what it failed to achieve during the beginning of the war and [let it achieve] ‘unity of the battlefields,’” he added, in reference to the terrorist group’s attempts to spark a multi-front war.
Judea and Samaria saw a dramatic rise in terrorist attacks in 2023 compared to the previous year, with shootings reaching their highest level since the Second Intifada of 2000-05, IDF data shows. The violence has continued to escalate in the months since Hamas started a war with its murderous rampage across the north western Negev on Oct. 7.
In his speech on Wednesday, Haniyeh charged that “the occupation [i.e. Israel] and its partner, the United States,” are attempting “to achieve through political machinations what they did not achieve in combat.”
Israel’s War Cabinet on Saturday approved the travel to Qatar in the coming days of a delegation to continue ceasefire-for-hostages talks, after “significant progress” was reported in Paris over the weekend.
The Friday and Saturday meetings built on last month’s initial gathering in the French capital as well as intermittent talks in Cairo aimed at realizing a proposal to free the remaining 134 Israelis being held by Hamas in exchange for an extended pause in the war. ahead of the start of Ramadan.
However, Army Radio on Wednesday reported that Hamas derided the proposed outline as “a Zionist document” and objected to the fact that it did not call for a permanent end to the IDF operation in Gaza, among other demands made by the terrorist group.
The U.S.-drafted proposal reportedly provides for a six-week pause in fighting, during which Hamas would free some 40 hostages in exchange for approximately 400 Palestinian terrorists jailed in Israel.

Sounds like they don't care very much about 'innocent' Palestinians, does it?  ::)

And while we're on the subject, does anybody know where all this nonsense originated from? I refer to the notion that has taken hold in all forms of public discourse that Israel has some kind of a responsibility (an obligation, even) to look after their sworn mortal enemies and provide them with "humanitarian aid'. Hamas is the Palestinians and the Palestinians are Hamas. They are actively seeming to destroy the State of Israel and drive the Jews into the sea, as they never stop reminding anyone who can be bothered to listen. Why, then, does Israel have a duty of care towards them?

Correct me if I am wrong but the Royal Air Force did not drop off food parcels, tents, clothing or medicines to displaced Germans during 1944-45, and you can bet your bottom dollar that the Soviets weren't indulging them, either. Indeed, there has never been a conflict in the whole of human history where one army has been expected to differentiate between 'combatants' and 'civilians' on the opposition side and perform all manner of courtesies on behalf of the latter group. And in any case, as Sir Arthur Harris sometimes pointed out, the very idea of 'civilians' is something of a myth, for it is their efforts in the background that keep the front line functioning. But, for some reason, Israel is treated as an exception and a special case.

I am reminded of Noel Coward and his brilliant song "Don't Let's Be Beastly To The Germans". It satirises sentiments like these to perfection....

The images have been searing. Children scrabbling in the dirt, gathering handfuls of spilled flour which they stuff into their pockets.

Aid trucks surrounded by angry mobs of mostly young men, who attack the drivers and make off with whatever they can carry.

And young Maryam Abed-Rabu, trying but ultimately failing to stay composed as she answered a journalist's questions about the daily struggle to stay alive.

A girl who has already been through so much, including the loss of her father, wailing at her inability simply to find bread.

Northern Gaza is almost entirely cut off from the outside world. The population, estimated at around 300,000 people, reduced to a feral existence in a world where shops barely exist and aid never arrives.

The south, meanwhile, is crammed with the displaced - hundreds of thousands of people constantly on the move, looking for food, shelter and safety.

Israel says it's doing what it can to limit the suffering of civilians, but four and a half months of relentless military assault have left the Gaza Strip on its knees, with aid agencies unable to cope.

"Every time you go back it gets worse," Jamie McGoldrick, the UN's interim coordinator for the Palestinian territories, said on Friday.

Just back from his latest visit to the Gaza Strip, he found despair was rife.

I'm choking back the tears, really I am. Honest. 😂

I wonder what the explanation could be for the somewhat straightened circumstances these loathsome  backward savages.....whoops, I mean these 'peace loving upright citizens'....are currently experiencing?

It's almost as if something might have happened, that they might have done something rather naughty, and that the Israelis have taken offence at it and have started treating the peace lovers in a bit of a beastly fashion. But what the Dickens could it be?

Let me see now...erm...no, I said hang on a minute....erm....don't rush me .....?🤔

Jeremy Hunt - Sensible Taxes.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is on Laura Kuenssberg's programme ahead of the spring Budget.
He says Wednesday's economic speech will show a "path to lower taxation" but will be "prudent and responsible"

Hunt says he will only cut taxes in way that is "sensible, sustainable and for the long term".

Labour's shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson says Hunt has failed to guarantee the free childcare pledge.

Also on the programme, Mariano Janin, father of Mia Janin, who took her own life after being bullied, calls for a cyber-bullying law.

US Vice-President Kamala Harris says people in Gaza "are starving" and has urged Israel to "significantly increase the flow of aid" there.

She said "there must be an immediate ceasefire for at least the next six weeks", which would "get the [Israeli] hostages out".

Earlier, Israel did not attend truce talks in Egypt, saying Hamas was not giving a list of hostages still alive.

Hamas told the BBC it was unable to do so because of the Israeli bombing.

"Practically it is impossible to know who is still alive," said Dr Basem Naim, a senior Hamas official.

Hamas's team and mediators from the US and Qatar are understood to be in Egypt's capital Cairo for the planned negotiations.

Pressure for a ceasefire deal intensified after Thursday's incident outside Gaza City in the north of the Palestinian enclave where at least 112 people were killed when crowds rushed an aid convoy and Israeli troops opened fire.

Personally, I am far more concerned about the sky-rocketing attacks on Jewish people throughout Europe than I am about the travails of hate filled cave dwellers in Gaza. The pro-terrorism demonstrations (Gosh, I mean the “protests for Palestine” that are being tolerated and encouraged by those in authority throughout Britain and Europe) are spine chilling in their unmistakable calls for the annihilation of all Jews the world over.

In reality, despite the lies of the BBC and the rest of the legacy media, the IDF are taking great care to avoid injuring so-called civilians as they conduct their operations. This is why it is taking so long for them to achieve their objectives. The cave dwellers have constructed a labyrinth of tunnels under Gaza which are, of course, paid for by you and I in the form of humanitarian aid 🤣 and which are not at all easy to disable due to the sheer size and sprawl of them. Hamas are believed to have had approximately 40,000 active terrorists at their disposal when they launched their attack on October 7th, but independent sources believe that around half of that number have perished like rats since then.

Sadly, there is still some way to go before Israel finally eradicates the cancer of Hamas and their supporters and enablers. But they will get there in the end, God willing……

A vulnerable girl in a young offenders institution twice had her clothes removed under restraint by an all-male team of prison officers, a report says.

The inmate had been stripped to stop her using her clothes to harm herself at Wetherby Young Offender Institution.

The incident emerged in a report critical of the facility, which houses some of the UK's most complex children.

It found care for vulnerable young people - especially girls - was "not good enough".

Charlie Taylor, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, said there was "no effective model of custody" for the facility's small female population.

There are seven girls imprisoned in England and Wales. When Wetherby was inspected last December, three were held there - a small fraction of the institution's 165 inmates.

Wetherby saw almost 900 incidents of self-harm in the space of a year - the highest of any prison in England and Wales - and more than half were accounted for by the three girls.
