STOP SENDING WEAPONS TO GAZA SAY TOP JUDGES>

The growing calls for the suspension of UK export licences comes after seven aid workers - including three British citizens - were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Monday.

Australian, Palestinian, American-Canadian, and Polish nationals were also killed. The group had just unloaded more than 100 tonnes of food aid.

Speaking to the Sun newspaper after the incident, Mr Sunak called for an independent investigation, but stopped short of saying arms sales should end.

He added that the UK had been "consistently clear" with Israel that it must follow international humanitarian law.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the attack as unintended and "tragic", and promised an independent investigation. It rejects the claim of genocide as "wholly unfounded".

Spot on, SCL.

At the end of the day, being maimed or killed is one of the risks you take when you knowingly and willingly travel to what is known as a ‘war zone’, is it not? The clue lies in the title.

I’m sorry but I am completely out of sympathy for those who continue to cheerlead for Hamas. Providing “aid” in Gaza is a thinly and clumsily disguised method of expressing one’s support for terrorism and one’s hatred of Jewish people.

Indeed, I find that I am increasingly out of sympathy for Wooden Tops in general these days. Since the Pandemic Hoax and the launch of the bogus vaccines I do not handle Stupid very well at all.

They knew what they were doing. To hell with them.

Well I'm not a military expert but if I had been then instead of attacking on 7th October I would have waited until Netanyahu had been tried and convicted
and gone.

I'm refering to his corruption charges,  now he is on a mission to become a war hero.

Israel says it has approved the opening of two routes into Gaza to allow more humanitarian aid into the territory
  • The Erez Gate in northern Gaza will be temporarily re-opened for the first time since the start of the war, and Ashdod Port will also be opened for humanitarian deliveries
  • More aid from Jordan will also be allowed to enter via the Kerem Shalom Crossing
  • It comes hours after US President Joe Biden spoke to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu for the first time since an Israeli strike killed seven aid workers in Gaza on Monday
  • Israel said earlier this week the incident was a "grave mistake" and promised an independent investigation
  • Biden told Netanyahu that US support for Israel will depend on steps being taken to "address civilian harm" and "humanitarian suffering" in Gaza

This call by Biden was not unexpected as his reputation is on the line,  he will forever be linked with Gaza.

    Gaza?

No, I reckon FJB secured his reputation with the Afghanistan debacle. Almost all of the hardware left behind by the retreating Americans will long since have been in the hands of the regime in Tehran. Indeed, some of the weaponry will have been supplied to its proxy military units around the world, including Hamas.

On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “The Story,” White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby responded to questions on how the 2021 U.S. strike in Afghanistan that killed an aid worker is different from the Israeli strike that killed World Central Kitchen workers are different by stating that it’s “imprudent to try to compare two things that happened three years apart in two different conflicts.” And there was an independent investigation of the Afghanistan strike, “and that independent investigator found that there was no need for personal accountability to be had, but did find that the U.S. military needed to make some systemic changes, procedural changes in how we looked at intelligence and acted on that intelligence.”

Host Martha MacCallum asked, [relevant exchange begins around 3:25] “When we left Afghanistan, we had a similar, tragic Hellfire missile attack that landed and killed ten people, a man who was carrying water, bringing water as part of humanitarian aid, and, at that point, when you were asked, what are we going to do about that, who’s accountable for that? This is what you said, John.”

She then played video of Kirby saying, “None of their recommendations dealt specifically with issues of accountability. … So, I do not anticipate there being issues of personal accountability to be had with respect to the August 29 airstrike.”

MacCallum then asked, “So, there were seven children that were killed by that U.S. Hellfire missile, no accountability, you said, was part of the plan. So, why is this so different than what we did there?”

Kirby answered, “Well, look, these are events that happened three years apart, two different geographic locations, two different countries, two different sets of circumstances, two different types of threat that were being evaluated, and [two completely] different militaries that were involved, with two different chains of command. So, I think we’ve got to be careful comparing both events too closely. We, too, had an independent investigation, Martha, of that incident, and that independent investigator found that there was no need for personal accountability to be had, but did find that the U.S. military needed to make some systemic changes, procedural changes in how we looked at intelligence and acted on that intelligence. The Israelis, similarly, have said the same thing about this event this week with the WCK strike, that they’re going to make some systemic changes. Now, we’re glad to hear that and we’re going to be watching to see what those changes are and how they can put them into effect. But these are two different events.”

MacCallum then cut in to say, “They’re not that different though, John. … This was a trigger moment, it appears, for the White House, because, obviously, the momentum has been building to take a harder line against Israel and their tactics, but this was the event that really pushed things over the edge. And so, why is it so different, in terms of what Israel carried out, in the midst of war — and these aid workers, and my heart breaks for them, as it does for the seven children who were with this man underneath this Hellfire missile — but the aid workers know that they are in a war zone and that they are taking a tremendous risk, at risk of their own safety.”

Kirby responded, “Yeah, well, first, again, two different incidents. I understand that there [are] similarities here. But it would be, I think, imprudent to try to compare two things that happened three years apart in two different conflicts. That said, the Israelis have said that they made a mistake here. They have come clean about what happened, and we’re going to be looking at their report to see what we think of it as well. And they said that they’re going to improve. They need to improve the de-confliction processes with the aid workers, and that’s going to be important going forward.”

      That's OK then. ???

    BBC News

Food charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) has called for an independent investigation into the killing of seven of its staff by Israeli drone strikes in Gaza.

It comes after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said "grave mistakes" led to the fatal targeting of the workers.

An Israeli military inquiry led to two senior officers being dismissed.

However, the CEO of the aid group said the Israeli military "cannot credibly investigate its own failure in Gaza".

In a statement, Erin Gore continued: "[The IDF's] apologies for the outrageous killing of our colleagues represent cold comfort. It's cold comfort for the victims' families and WCK's global family."

She said Israel must take "concrete steps" to ensure the safety of aid workers operating on the ground in Gaza, where several organisations have suspended operations in light of the deaths.

Israel is under pressure from key Western partners to publish the full findings of its investigation, which have not been made public.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he had received the Israeli report and was "reviewing it very carefully". He said the US will be "looking to see not just what steps are being taken, but the results that follow from them".

The Biden administration is facing mounting pressure from some Democrats over its military support to Israel. On Friday, more than three dozen members of Congress, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, signed a letter urging the US president and Mr Blinken to "reconsider" the authorisation of an arms package transfer to Israel.

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, Labour's shadow foreign secretary David Lammy and Nato's leader Jens Stoltenberg are this week's guests on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg

  • Dowden says the UK has concerns about "specific areas" of Israel's conduct, but says its war with Gaza is "legitimate"
  • The advice on arms sales has not changed, Dowden adds, after some MPs called for the UK to reassess how it supports Israel
  • Lammy accuses Foreign Secretary David Cameron of "dodging questions" over arms sales to Israel
  • He also defends Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner after allegations about tax on her home sale
  • The Nato chief warns that an "alliance of authoritarian powers" is working more closely together against Western democracies

Christ, I had no idea this intellectual giant among men was still around.

But then again, he hasn't been the same since they started cutting down all those trees in his leafy Tottenham suburb.

Palestinians have begun returning to the devastated city of Khan Younis, after Israel says it is reducing the numbers of soldiers in southern Gaza
  • Israel's military stresses a "significant force" will remain in Gaza, with the defence minister saying troops had to prepare for future operations
  • The pull-out is being interpreted as tactical, rather than a sign the war may be moving closer to its end.
  • Khan Younis has been under Israeli bombardment for months - the city and surrounding area are largely destroyed
  • One man, now living in Rafah, tells BBC News he is "filled with hope as my neighbour in a tent from Khan Younis was able to return home"
  • Meanwhile, international pressure for a ceasefire is mounting as negotiations between Israel and Hamas continue in Cairo
  • The US warned last week that its ongoing support for Israel was dependent on "specific, concrete steps" to boost aid and prevent civilian deaths.
