I'm coming to live in Manchester!
« on: 15:46:31, 07/01/08 »
I'm moving to manchester as soon as my work transfer comes through. I am wanting to live as near to the city centre as possibl;e, and looking at accomodation I notice that Rusholme is close to the middle, and cheap as well.

Can anyone advise me on what the area is like? Is it safe?

And does anyone have any suggestion on other possible areas near the centre which won't cost the earth?

I think Arthur or Chris/Admin may be able to help, Ninjaki has just started at Manchester Metropolitan University, and lives near Rusholme/Didsbury area, she has been there since last September so would know the area quite well as regards economy and safety - pm her.

hallo!
first of all I wanna point out I am studying in the University of Manchester and not the Metropolitan. :D
second I am not living in rusholme, I am just close to the area.. i mean I have access to it walking in 10 minutes.

Personally, I wouldnt mind to live in Rusholme. It seems to be indeed one of the cheapest areas... BUT
BUT I dont know if YOU are aware if the fact that in Rusholme there are 99% Pakistan and Indian residents and it may be more dangerous. I am not racist. I have very good indian friends from university but I dont know about the people of rusholme

third, if u like indian cuisine u should live there :P
if not then u shouldnt cause all area smells spicies! its amazing

I hope I helped :)

Actually I dont know much about residence prices cause I never had to search for it cause I live in the University  accommodation.

HOWEVER.. where will u be working? this is an important issue.. but not so important since everything is near with a bus since there are many convenient buses to everywhere

I think that upper brook street and anson roads are good quiet places and maybe cheap with access to city centre
I am afraid I cant say more :)
I dont know about house pricing I mean
:)

good luck!
