If you could live anywhere you wanted in Manchester, where would you be happiest ?   8)

I wouldn't really like to live in the centre of Manchester, or too near to it, most of the buildings are apartments and I wouldn't like that.  I nearly bought a house as an investment in the nineties, near to the Bridgewater Hall I think - £49,500, probably worth over £200,000+ now, but was worried my ex would find out.
Wouldn't like to live in the inner cities either. Hale or Bowdon would appeal.

When was the last time you were in Manchester, it's changed a lot, have you been on the Metrolink?

I think it was when I went to the Lowry Exhibition Centre a few years ago, I had been on the Metrolink a few years previously

I know what you mean about apartments - probably too much noise nuisance from folks in close proximity and probably best to avoid routes where nightclubs attract noisy nightlife into the wee hoours

Even old people can be a nuisance in apartments because they are often half-deaf and turn up the TV at night and stay up late as they don't have to get up for work  :( zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Got to be Hale/Bowdon as Celeste says.

I'd cut off all my limbs and poke me eyes out before I'd live anywhere else (okay maybe Lymm or Knutsford) but especially anywhere in North Manchester.

I've been to Bolton and am still having therapy.

Main city bound to be higher, it has always had a reputation for being higher than Trafford for instance, are you looking here for a house, check council tax rates first.

Of course depends how the house you buy is graded eg. H

Of course it hasn't.  I also think that whilst the Poll Tax has been abolished, as such the  Council Tax is only a thinly vieled new version.  I moved into a large attic flat in Bowdon several years ago only to be told I was in Band 'D'.  I challenged this and eventually, after much huffing and puffing and down right pursuit of the matter got it reduced to Band B.  It was a victorian mansion, split into 6 flats.  In it's entirety, would be in band H (which I believe is the most expensive) and whilst I understand that each flat should pay 'a little bit more' didn't understand why we, all 6 flats were, in our collective, now paying more than 5 times the original rates of the house.

I also get peed off at the fact that as far as our taxes are rising, our services are diminishing.

I believe Ordnance Survey regard St. Anns Church in St Anns Sq as the 'official' centre of Manchester for distance calculation.

Unofficially of course it's the City of Manchester Stadium  O0

The Prawn Sandwich Shop being in Old Trafford is outside city limits  ;)
