is it a repair building for something or an underground entrance to a hotel or something similar, is it a well known landmark?

...it is quite easy to guess what it is, but the actual name is a difficult one, an unusual name and is it still derelict or what has happened to it since 2001

It is located in North Manchester

I had to get my magnifying glass out -  it's the Victorian Swimming Baths that won a competition for renovation isn't it?

It was N.E. of Manchester City Centre

nope !!

....it had been closed in 2001 and condemned, I believe, because there is another fitness & Leisure center nearby

I think it was strangely located in a district/township called Blackley  ???
