What happened to Castlefield Visitors Centre

Can anyone tell me what the real reasons were for Castlefield Visitors Centre shutting. I am doing a study for a degree on Castlefield and I can't find any referance or reason as to why this centre shut.
Any feed back about Castlefield would be greatly received.
