It's a library now on Deansgate

I think it now belongs (don't ask me how or why) to the University (note the full name) of Manchester !!  8)

Sir Humphrey Chetham bequeathed the music college to the World in his will - it was then part of the cathedral, and the main gun-powder store in the civil war years - the siege of manchester was mainly caused when the Earl Od Derby tried to collect the powder supplies, which were in fact his - Parliament confiscated the supplies illegally.

Chetham was a leading financier and kept the accounts for all parliament expenditure in the north west - he just got out of Bolton before the massacre there - the college he left is now the music college

There is a statue of Joule in Sale (Worthington) Park

one of the 'houses' my son was in at school was Joule (I must ask him what the other three were when he comes in - more historical names perhaps)

The current Earl of Derby is the 19th - The family do indeed own much of Knowsley, including the Safari Park, and large portions of the isle of Man. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Derby
